J. Chris Wilson
J. Chris Wilson (born 1948 died 2023) is an American Southern regionalist artist, known for his portrait paintings of the North Carolina scenic landscapes. Wilson's paintings were the first to be featured in the North Carolina House of Representatives Chamber of the North Carolina Legislative Building. He was the first artist-in-residence at Barton College. Education Wilson was born in Waycross, Georgia in 1948. For much of his childhood, he lived on St. Simons Island and moved to North Carolina in 1974. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Valdosta State University in 1970 and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia in 1973. In graduate school, Wilson studied under Lamar Dodd. Career and style Wilson, initially a mid-century modern abstractionist, had transitioned into a regional realist by 1972. Waycross, Georgia
Waycross is the county seat of, and only incorporated city in, Ware County in the U.S. state of Georgia. The population was 14,725 at the 2010 Census and dropped to 13,942 in the 2020 census. Waycross includes two historic districts (Downtown Waycross Historic District and Waycross Historic District) and several other properties that are on the National Register of Historic Places, including the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse, Lott Cemetery, the First African Baptist Church and Parsonage, and the Obediah Barber Homestead (which is seven miles south of the city). Utagawa Hiroshige (, also ; ja, 歌川 広重 ), born Andō Tokutarō (; 1797 – 12 October 1858), was a Japanese ''ukiyo-e'' artist, considered the last great master of that tradition. Hiroshige is best known for his horizontal-format landscape series ''The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō'' and for his vertical-format landscape series ''One Hundred Famous Views of Edo''. The subjects of his work were atypical of the ''ukiyo-e'' genre, whose typical focus was on beautiful women, popular actors, and other scenes of the urban pleasure districts of Japan's Edo period (1603–1868).
