J. Rogers Pope
J. Rogers Pope is an American politician from the state of Louisiana. A Republican, Pope has represented the 13th district of the Louisiana State Senate, covering parts of Livingston Parish, since 2020. Pope formerly represented the 71st district of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2008 until 2020. Career Pope is a former Livingston Parish Schools Superintendent, and continues to serve as the Executive Director of the Louisiana Association of School Executives. Pope won election to the Louisiana House of Representatives for the 71st district in 2007, narrowly defeating fellow Republican John Ware. He was re-elected unopposed in 2011 and 2015. When he was term-limited from the House of Representatives in 2019, Pope ran instead for the 13th district of the Louisiana State Senate. Louisiana's 13th State Senate District
Louisiana's 13th State Senate district is one of 39 districts in the Louisiana State Senate. It has been represented by Republican J. Rogers Pope since 2020, succeeding fellow Republican Dale M. Erdey. District 13 is currently the most Republican-leaning district in the Senate. Geography District 13 covers most of Livingston Parish and smaller parts of East Baton Rouge and Tangipahoa Parishes to the east of Baton Rouge, including some or all of Denham Springs, Walker, Livingston, and Ponchatoula. The district overlaps with Louisiana's 1st and 6th congressional districts, and with the 64th, 65th, 71st, 73rd, 81st, and 95th districts of the Louisiana House of Representatives. 2007 Louisiana Elections
Louisiana's 2007 state elections were held on October 20, 2007, with runoff elections held on November 17. All statewide elected offices were up, as well as all seats in the Louisiana State Legislature. Republicans were successful in electing the country's first Indian-American governor, Congressman Bobby Jindal. The issue of the state's response to Hurricane Katrina played a large part in the decision of incumbent governor Kathleen Blanco to retire rather than seek a second term in office. Term limits also effected many retirements in the state legislature, which proved to be a benefit to Republicans, who made gains in both houses. A general election was held in the U.S. state of Louisiana on October 24, 2015. All of Louisiana's executive officers, and both houses of the Louisiana State Legislature were up for election. Under Louisiana's jungle primary system, all candidates appeared on the same ballot, regardless of party and voters voted for any candidate, regardless of their party affiliation. Since no candidate received a majority of the vote during the primary election, a runoff election was held on November 21, 2015 between the top two candidates in the primary. Louisiana is the only state that has a jungle primary system (California and Washington have a similar "top two primary" system). The Louisiana House of Representatives (french: link=no, Chambre des Représentants de Louisiane) is the lower house in the Louisiana State Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Louisiana.
