J. R. LaRose
J. R. (Alozie) LaRose (born February 27, 1984) is a former Canadian football safety. He originally signed with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2005 as a territorial protected junior. He played for the Canadian Junior Football League's Edmonton Huskies; his team won the Canadian Bowl in 2005. He then played in the Canadian Football League for the Edmonton Eskimos and the BC Lions; his team won the Grey Cup in 2011. He continued playing in the CFL until retiring in 2014. Personal life LaRose is a member of the Cree nation and is registered to the One Arrow First Nation in Saskatchewan. He was raised by his mother, Barbara, in Edmonton, Alberta. LaRose never met his Nigerian father as he was deported back to his home country before he was born. He now has two children and is married. One Arrow First Nation
One Arrow First Nation ( cr, ᑳ ᐯᔭᒁᐢᑯᓇᒼ ''kâ-pêyakwâskonam'') is a Cree First Nations band government in Bellevue, Saskatchewan, Canada. Its main reserve is located just south of Batoche near the South Saskatchewan River about 100 km North-east of Saskatoon. The One Arrow First Nation's reserve is in the aspen parkland biome. It is bordered by the Rural Municipalities of St. Louis No. 431, Fish Creek No. 402, and Duck Lake No. 463. Named after Chief One Arrow, a signatory to Treaty Six at Fort Carlton in 1876, the band had land disputes with the Métis of Batoche in the 1880s, and their supposed role in the North-West Rebellion is quite controversial. Chief One Arrow himself claimed they were coerced into participating alongside Louis Riel, while the Métis claim they were allied. Currently Chief Tricia Gamble presides over the band government. Franco-Albertans (french: Franco-Albertains) are francophone residents of the Canadian province of Alberta. Franco-Albertans may also refer to residents of Alberta with French Canadian ancestry, although publications from the government of Alberta use the term ''Franco-Albertan'' to refer to its francophone residents.
