Izium Raion
Izium Raion () is a raion (district) in Kharkiv Oblast of Ukraine. Its administrative center is the city of Izium. Population: On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast was reduced to seven, and the area of Izium Raion was significantly expanded. Three abolished raions – Balakliia, Barvinkove, and Borova Raions – and the city of Izium, which was previously incorporated as a city of oblast significance and did not belong to the raion, were merged into Izium Raion. Raions of Ukraine (often translated as "districts"; Ukrainian: ра́йон, tr. ''raion''; plural: райо́ни, tr. ''raiony'') are the second level of administrative division in Ukraine, below the oblast. Raions were created in a 1922 administrative reform of the Soviet Union, to which Ukraine, as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, belonged. On 17 July 2020, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) approved an administrative reform to merge most of the 490 raions, along with the "cities of regional significance", which were previously outside the raions, into just 136 reformed raions. Savyntsi ( uk, Савинці, russian: Са́винцы) is an urban-type settlement in Izium Raion of Kharkiv Oblast in Ukraine. It is located on the left bank of the Siverskyi Donets. Savyntsi hosts the administration of Savyntsi settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: Until 18 July 2020, Savyntsi belonged to Balakliia Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven. The Seversky Donets () or Siverskyi Donets (), usually simply called the Donets, is a river on the south of the East European Plain. It originates in the Central Russian Upland, north of Belgorod, flows south-east through Ukraine (Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts) and then again through Russia (Rostov Oblast) to join the river Don, about from the Sea of Azov.
