Donets, Ukraine
Donets ( uk, Донець, russian: Донец), until May 2016 Chervonyi Donets ( uk, Червоний Донець, russian: Червоный Донец), is an urban-type settlement in Izium Raion, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. Donets hosts the administration of Donets settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: Donets is located on the right bank of the Donets River. History Urban-type settlement since 1959. In January 1989 the population was 9653 people. In January 2013 the population was 8997 people. On 19 May 2016, Verkhovna Rada adopted decision to rename Chervonyi Donets to Donets conform to the law prohibiting names of Communist origin. Until 18 July 2020, Donets belonged to Balakliia Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven. Kharkiv Oblast ( uk, Харківська́ о́бласть, translit=Kharkivska oblast), also referred to as Kharkivshchyna ( uk, Ха́рківщина), is an oblast (province) of eastern Ukraine. An oblast ( uk, о́бласть; ) in Ukraine, often called a region or province, is the main type of first-level administrative division of the country. Ukraine's territory is divided into 24 oblasts, as well as one autonomous republic, Crimea, and two cities with special status, Kyiv and Sevastopol. Izium Raion () is a raion (district) in Kharkiv Oblast of Ukraine. Its administrative center is the city of Izium. Population: On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast was reduced to seven, and the area of Izium Raion was significantly expanded. A hromada ( uk, територіальна громада, lit=territorial community, translit=terytorialna hromada) is a basic unit of administrative division in Ukraine, similar to a municipality. It was established by the Government of Ukraine on 12 June 2020. Similar terms exist in Poland (''gromada'') and in Belarus (''hramada''). The literal translation of this term is "community", similarly to the terms used in western European states, such as Germany ('' Gemeinde''), France (''commune'') and Italy (''comune'').
