Italy competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 25 February 2018, with 120 competitors in 14 sports. They won ten medals in total, three gold, two silver and five bronze, ranking 12th in the medal table. Short-track speed skater Arianna Fontana, who was also the flag bearer at the opening ceremony, was the country's most successful athlete, having won three medals, one of each color. Dorothea Wierer (, ; born 3 April 1990) is an Italian biathlete competing in the Biathlon World Cup. Together with Karin Oberhofer, Dominik Windisch and Lukas Hofer she won a bronze medal in the Mixed relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics, in Sochi, Russia. Summary The event was won by Ted-Jan Bloemen, the world record holder at this distance. Defending champion Jorrit Bergsma was second, and Nicola Tumolero won the bronze medal. Speed skating at the Winter Olympics, Speed skating at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Gangneung Oval in Gangneung, South Korea between 10 and 24 February 2018. Qualification A total quota of 180 athletes were allowed to compete at the Games (maximum 100 men and 80 women). Countries were assigned quotas based on the results of the entire 2017–18 ISU Speed Skating World Cup in the autumn of 2017. The men's 10 km sprint biathlon competition of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics was held on 11 February 2018 at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The event was won by Arnd Peiffer, with Michal Krčmář taking silver and Dominik Windisch bronze. This was the first individual Olympic medal for both Peiffer and Windisch, whereas for Krčmář, this was the first Olympic medal. Summary The 2014 champion, Ole Einar Bjørndalen, did not qualify for the event, and only the silver medalist, Dominik Landertinger, was competing. Biathlon at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea.
