"It's a Rainy Day" is a song by British, Italy based Eurodance artist Ice MC, released in August 1994 as the third single from his third album, ''Ice'n'Green'' (1994), on which it appears in two versions, and his eleventh single overall. Written and produced by Robyx, it features vocals by Italian singer Alexia. It became the most successful single of the album, reaching number-one in Italy and number two in both Belgium and Spain. The single was also released with new remixes for the Christmas holidays. Giacomo De Simone directed its accompanying music video. Chart performance "It's a Rainy Day" was a sizeable hit on the charts in Europe and remains one of Ice MC's most successful songs to date. It peaked at number-one in Italy, as well as on the European Dance Radio Chart. Ice MC (born Ian Campbell, 22 March 1965) is a British rapper who started his professional music career in Italy when he got signed to Robyx and made his debut with the single " Easy". He's best known for the Eurodance hit singles "Take Away the Colour", "Think About the Way" "and " It's a Rainy Day". The Ice MC hits are most notable for being the first songs in the Eurodance genre to blend raggamuffin style rap with female singing choruses. Italian producer and singer Roberto Zanetti (a.k.a. Robyx) and his music team produced the Ice MC hits while simultaneously producing hits for other major '90s artists like Double You, Alexia, and Corona. VIVA (abbreviation for: translating to "Video Exploitation Facility") was a German free-to-air music television channel, first broadcast on 1 December 1993. The channel was intended to compete against MTV Europe and was the first German-language music TV channel, while MTV was only broadcast in English until the introduction of MTV Germany in 1997. It was also supposed to focus more on German music and pop culture while MTV only broadcast anglophone music by artists mostly from North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia. After years of competition for audience share, MTV Networks Europe eventually acquired VIVA on 14 January 2005 after it had outrun its own efforts for better ratings.
