''It's a Big Daddy Thing'' is the second full-length album by American rapper Big Daddy Kane. It was released on September 19, 1989 by Cold Chillin' Records and Warner Bros. Records. Critics call it his best album by far. Background Unlike his debut album, which was solely produced by Marley Marl, Kane himself produced the majority of the album. Production was also provided by Prince Paul, Easy Mo Bee, Teddy Riley, Mister Cee, as well as Marley Marl. In character with his first album and many other albums of the day, ''It's a Big Daddy Thing'' branches out into different styles, from battle rhymes to love ballads and more. His later posturing as a self-proclaimed ladies' man is somewhat foreshadowed by the hit song "Smooth Operator". Nice & Smooth is an East Coast hip hop duo from New York City that consists of Gregory O. "Greg Nice" Mays (born May 30, 1967) and Darryl O. "Smooth B" Barnes (born August 3, 1967) plus their deejay Tedd "DJ Teddy Tedd" Whiting. The duo released four albums between 1989 and 1997. Their first collaborative appearance was on the single "Dope on a Rope"/"Skill Trade" on Strange Family Records in 1987. Frederick Crute (born November 27, 1956), known professionally as Kool DJ Red Alert, is an American disc jockey who rose to fame on WRKS 98.7 Kiss FM in New York City and is recognized as one of the founding fathers of hip hop music and culture. His weekly radio show airs on WBLS 107.5 FM from Monday to Saturday at 6pm EST. Red Alert is one of the first deejays to perform with the architects of hip hop Universal Zulu Nation. He built his radio show's fanbase by shouting out to listeners within the Tri-State area. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade organization that represents the music recording industry in the United States.
