István Fekete
István Fekete (25 January 1900, Gölle, Austria-Hungary – 23 June 1970, Budapest, Hungary) was a Hungarian writer. He wrote several youth novels and animal stories. He is perhaps best known for his youth novel ''Tüskevár'' ("Thorn Castle", 1957), about two city boys' summer holiday at the corner of Lake Balaton and Zala River, their experiences, adventures, contact with Nature in its genuine form. They are helped by an old man on their gradual journey into manhood. This novel was awarded the Attila József Prize in 1960, was made into a film in 1967 (see itIMDb entry and was voted to be the 8th most liked novel of Hungary in the Big Read in 2005. Its sequel was ''Téli berek'' ("Winter Grove", 1959). This novel, as well as ''Vuk: The Little Fox'' and ''Thistle'', were also in the top 100 of the Big Read. The biographical novel is a genre of novel which provides a fictional account of a contemporary or historical person's life. Like other forms of biographical fiction, details are often trimmed or reimagined to meet the artistic needs of the fictional genre, the novel. These reimagined biographies are sometimes called semi-biographical novels, to distinguish the relative historicity of the work from other biographical novels The genre rose to prominence in the 1930s with best-selling works by authors such as Robert Graves, Thomas Mann, Irving Stone and Lion Feuchtwanger. Kálmán Kittenberger
Kálmán Kittenberger (Léva, 10 October 1881 - Nagymaros, 4 January 1958) was a Hungarian traveller, natural historian, biologist and collector. He was born in Léva, now in Slovakia (''Levice''). He made six travels to Africa, the first time in 1902, where he was accompanying a wealthy nobleman on a hunting trip and supported by the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest. He spent altogether ten and a half years in Africa. During his journeys he faced financial difficulties as he received no sponsorship, but he was still able to grant 60,000 items to the biological collections of the Hungarian National Museum, including 300 new animal species. (Almost 40 of them were named after Kittenberger, including '' Pachyonomastus kittenbergeri'') Part of that collection was annihilated by a fire in 1956. Szarvas
Szarvas (; sk, Sarvaš; german: Sarwasch) is a town in Békés County, Hungary. Name Placename Szarvas originated from the old Hungarian word ''szarvas'', which means deer. Deer also can be found in the coat of arms of the town. Location Szarvas is located in the Great Hungarian Plain upon the Körös River, southeast from Budapest. Highways 44 and 443, and the Mezőtúr-Orosháza-Mezőhegyes railway line also cross the town.
