Istana Satu
The Istana Satu (First Palace) was a royal residence in Kuala Terengganu in Malaysia. History The Istana Satu was erected by Sultan Zainal Abidin III, Sultan of Terengganu in 1884 in the compound of Kota Istana Maziah, Kuala Terengganu. This building is of Terengganu Malay traditional architecture, in the form called "Rumah Tiang Dua Belas". The wood used is cengal. Istana Satu was erected in the Muzium Negara compound in April 1974. The restored palace is a wooden house designed for the tropics. Standing on stilts that allow air to circulate freely under the building, the palace’s steep thatch roof helps keep the interior of the house cool. Intricate wood carvings adorn the doors and windows. The guest hall of the istana is furnished with a cupboard that is made of carved wood with gold inlaid and complete with a mirror. Zainal Abidin III
Sultan Zainal Abidin III Muadzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Ahmad Muadzam Shah II, , (12 April 1866 – 26 November 1918) was Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan Besar of the state of Terengganu from 1881 to 1918. Succeeding on the death of his father Sultan Ahmad, under his reign Terengganu became a British protectorate under the Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909. In 1911, Sultan Zainal Abidin III issued Terengganu's first constitution. He died in Kuala Terengganu on 26 November 1918, aged 52, after a nearly 37-year reign and was buried in the Zainal Abidin mosque. He was succeeded by his son, Muhammad Shah II. Sultan of Terengganu () is the title of the constitutional head of Terengganu state in Malaysia. The current Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu, is the 18th sultan and 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 2006 to 2011. He is the head of the religion of Islam in the state and the source of all titles, honours and dignities in the state. History Terengganu emerged as an independent sultanate in 1725. The first sultan was Zainal Abidin I, the younger brother of a former sultan of Johor, and Johor strongly influenced Terengganu politics through the 18th century. Istana Maziah
Istana Maziah is the official palace of the Sultan of Terengganu. It is located at the foot of Bukit Puteri in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia. The palace is the official venue for important functions such as royal birthdays, weddings, conferment of titles and receptions for local and foreign dignitaries. History Istana Maziah was built to replace Istana Hijau (Green Palace) which was destroyed in a fire. Istana Hijau had been constructed during the reign of Sultan Omar ( Baginda Omar) on 10 March 1870 (7 Zulhijjah 1286). There are differing accounts about the exact date construction started on Istana Maziah.
