Israel Eliraz ( he, ישראל אלירז; born Israel Rothstein on 23 March 1936 ישראל רוטשטיין died on 22 March 2016) was an Israeli poet who won the Bialik Prize (2008), the Brenner Prize (2013), the ACUM lifetime achievement award (2003), the Nathan Alterman Award (2002), the Jerusalem Foundation-Jerusalem Municipality’s ''Belles-Lettres'' Award (1992 and 1999), the Award (1963 and 1965), the (2009), and the (1994, 2008, and 2009). Biography Born Israel Rothstein on 23 March 1936 to a religious family in the Knesset Yisrael neighborhood of Jerusalem his parents were Ya’akov and Shifra Rothstein. New York City Opera
The New York City Opera (NYCO) is an American opera company located in Manhattan in New York City. The company has been active from 1943 through 2013 (when it filed for bankruptcy), and again since 2016 when it was revived. The opera company, dubbed "the people's opera" by New York Mayor Fiorello La Guardia, was founded in 1943. The company's stated purpose was to make opera accessible to a wide audience at a reasonable ticket price. It also sought to produce an innovative choice of repertory, and provide a home for American singers and composers. The company was originally housed at the New York City Center theater on West 55th Street in Manhattan. It later became part of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts at the New York State Theater from 1966 to 2010. During this time it produced autumn and spring seasons of opera in repertory, and maintained extensive education and outreach programs, offering arts-in-education programs to 4,000 students in over 30 schools. Hava Pinhas-Cohen
Hava Pinhas-Cohen ( he, חוה פנחס-כהן; 18 January 1955 – 29 October 2022) was an Israeli writer and poet. She was the first sabra of her family. Her work explored themes of Israel, Judaism, and eroticism. She served as the Editor-in-Chief of the literary journal Dimui and a translator, columnist, and book reviewer for Maariv. Early life Hava Pinhas-Cohen was born to a Jewish family of Bulgarian immigrants in 1955. Her family fled the European continent in the aftermath of World War II. They found a new life in Israel. Pinhas-Cohen was the first in her family to be born in the state of Israel. According to Yaniv Hagbi, in a comment translated from Hebrew to English, "Her experiences, the state of Israel, Judaism, eroticism, and the Tanakh are remarkably woven together in the tapestry of her work." Joshua Borkovsky
Joshua (Shuky) Borkovsky ( Hebrew: יהושע (שוקי) בורקובסקי; b. 19 January 1952 in Rishon LeZion) is an Israeli artist who lives and works in Jerusalem. Biography Joshua (Shuky) Borkovsky was born in 1952. From 1973 to 1977, he studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. He began teaching at the Art Teachers College in Ramat Hasharon in 1978. In 1979, he joined the faculty of Bezalel. He has also taught workshops at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1980-81, he attended Hunter College in New York for his MFA degree. Borkovsky's work features phantasmagoric imagery such as the silhouettes of sailing ships, and cartographic and geometric images. Borkovsky's exhibition at the Israel Museum in 2013, titled "Veronese Green," featured 58 works from 10 cycles of paintings created from 1987 to 2012.
