Asteraceae
The family Asteraceae, alternatively Compositae, consists of over 32,000 known species of flowering plants in over 1,900 genera within the order Asterales. It is found in the semi-arid areas of Southwestern United States and Mexico. The name of this genus is derived from the Greek for "equal hair" referring to the pappus on the seed.
