Island Lake (Manitoba)
Island Lake is a lake in northeastern Manitoba in Canada, near the Ontario border. The lake covers a total area of , making it the 6th largest lake in the province. The lake is in the Hayes River drainage basin. The Island Lake River flows north from the northwest section of the lake into Gods Lake via Goose Lake and Beaver Lake. Gods Lake drains north through Gods River into the Hayes River. A monument at the east end of the lake is a key point in the demarcation of the northeast–southwest boundary between Ontario and Manitoba. Settlements Located on the lake are the First Nations communities of Wasagamack, St. Theresa Point and Garden Hill and the northern settlement of Island Lake which in 2011 had a combined population of 7,120. Garden Hill, Manitoba
Garden Hill is the second largest of three reserves of the Island Lake region of Manitoba. Garden Hill First Nations (Oji-Cree: ᑭᐢᑎᑲᐣᐘᒋᐣᐠ, Kistiganwacheeng), the reserve's First Nations community, is located in the northeast section of the Canadian province of Manitoba on the shore of Island Lake. The community consists of an archipelago near the north shore of Island Lake which includes the following islands: Stevenson, Wass, Hamilton, Boothe, Chapins, RC Mission, Gravel, and Lindsays. Hayes River
The Hayes River is a river in Northern Manitoba, Canada, that flows from Molson Lake to Hudson Bay at York Factory. It was historically an important river in the development of Canada and is now a Canadian Heritage River and the longest naturally flowing river in Manitoba. Course The river begins at the northern end of Molson Lake (about northeast of the northern tip of Lake Winnipeg) at an elevation of and flows northeastward. Near Molson Lake, the Echimamish River connects with the Hayes. The Echimamish is a river bifurcation that connects the Hayes to the Nelson River, which flows out of Lake Winnipeg.
