Island
An island (or isle) is an isolated piece of habitat that is surrounded by a dramatically different habitat, such as water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, skerries, cays or keys. An island in a river or a lake island may be called an eyot or ait, and a small island off the coast may be called a holm. Sedimentary islands in the Ganges delta are called chars. A grouping of geographically or geologically related islands, such as the Philippines, is referred to as an archipelago. There are two main types of islands in the sea: continental and oceanic. There are also artificial islands, which are man-made. Etymology The word ''island'' derives from Middle English ''iland'', from Old English ''igland'' (from ''ig'' or ''ieg'', similarly meaning 'island' when used independently, and -land carrying its contemporary meaning; cf. Dutch ''eiland'' ("island"), German ''Eiland'' ("small island")). However, the spelling of the word ...

Islands (King Crimson Album)
''Islands'' is the fourth studio album by English band King Crimson, released in December 1971 on the record label Island. ''Islands'' is the only studio album to feature the 1971-1972 touring line-up of Robert Fripp, Mel Collins, Boz Burrell and Ian Wallace. This would be the last album before an entirely new group (except for Fripp) would record the trilogy of ''Larks' Tongues in Aspic'', '' Starless and Bible Black'' and ''Red'' between 1973-1974. This is also the last album to feature the lyrics of co-founding member Peter Sinfield. Musically, the album expands on the improvisational jazz leanings of King Crimson's previous album, ''Lizard''. It received a mixed response from critics and fans. Content The harmonic basis for the tune "The Letters" is derived from the Giles, Giles and Fripp song "Why Don't You Just Drop In", available on ''The Brondesbury Tapes'' compilation. The bridge section is also taken from the King Crimson version of the song, performed by the origi ...

Island (HÖH And Current 93 Album)
''Island'' is a studio album by HÖH and Current 93, released in November 1991 through Durtro. It differs from much of Current 93's output due to its prominent use of synthesizers and ambient music. Some of the compositions also appear on HÖH's soundtrack for the film ''Children of Nature''. The CD release of ''Island'' includes humorous bonus tracks. Background In the late 1980s, David Tibet of the British band Current 93 considered moving permanently to Iceland. Reception

The review by Thom Jurek awarded the album 4 stars stating: "the quintet creates a series of expansive yet pastoral jazz settings for the exploration at the margins without the edges. Make no mistake; aesthetically this is 'beautiful' and deeply moving music. The level of composition here is the heist, and the articulation of these tonal and harmonic architectures is flawless ... That this music is played with such grace, elegance, and aplomb makes it a gift to be cherished ...
