Isahak Basir
Isahak Basir CCH (sometimes Bashir, 18 September 19351 February 2019) was a Guyanese historian who was a member of the National Assembly of Guyana from 1977 to 1991. Basir was nicknamed "Uncle Tabrak" and was of Indian descent. Life Basir was born in Jacklow, a village near the Pomeroon River in Guyana. He was schooled at the Jacklow Anglican Primary School in his earlier years and later went to a private secondary school in another town. He then returned to Jacklow, where he managed a compound that produced coconut and rice. During this period, Basir studied dentistry overseas at Bennett College. Around 1960, Basir married Sabra Karim, with whom he had six children. After marriage, the couple moved to the Essequibo Coast where Basir worked as an assistant distiller at the Uitvlugt Distillery. Essequibo (colony)
Essequibo ( nl, Kolonie Essequebo, ) was a colony and later county on the Essequibo River in the Guiana region on the north coast of South America. It was a colony of the Dutch West India Company between 1616 and 1792 and a colony of the Dutch state from 1792 until 1815. It was merged with Demerara in 1812 by the British who took control. It formally became a British colony in 1815 till Demerara-Essequibo was merged with Berbice to form the colony of British Guiana in 1831. In 1838, it became a county of British Guiana till 1958. In 1966, British Guiana gained independence as Guyana and in 1970 it became a republic as the Co-operative Republic of Guyana. Georgetown, Guyana
Georgetown is the capital and largest city of Guyana. It is situated in Demerara-Mahaica, region 4, on the Atlantic Ocean coast, at the mouth of the Demerara River. It is nicknamed the "Garden City of the Caribbean." It is the retail, administrative, and financial services centre of the country, and the city accounts for a large portion of Guyana's GDP. Moses Veerasammy Nagamootoo (Tamil: மோசஸ் வீராசாமி நாகமுத்து; born 30 November 1947) is a Guyanese politician, writer and novelist who served as the Prime Minister of Guyana under former President David A. Granger from May 2015 to August 2020. Life and career Nagamootoo was born in the village of Whim, Berbice, British Guiana, in the present-day region of East Berbice-Corentyne, in present-day Guyana. He is of Tamil Indian descent. Nagamootoo worked as a teacher and journalist, and later became a lawyer. After high school, he co-founded the De Edwards/Rosignal High School in the late 1960s. Deolatchmee Ramotar (born 29 July 1949) is a retired Guyanese accountant who was the First Lady of Guyana from 2011 to 2015. Her spouse, Donald Ramotar, was the 7th President of Guyana. They were married in 1974. They have three children, Lisaveta, Alvaro, and Alexei. Ramotar has also worked as a teacher, a nurse, and an advocate for women’s and children’s issues. Donald Rabindranauth Ramotar (born 22 October 1950) is a Guyanese politician who was President of Guyana from 2011 to 2015. He was also the General Secretary of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) from 1997 to 2013. Heart failure (HF), also known as congestive heart failure (CHF), is a syndrome, a group of signs and symptoms caused by an impairment of the heart's blood pumping function. Bharrat Jagdeo (born 23 January 1964) is a Guyanese politician who has been serving as Vice President of Guyana since 2020, in the administration of President Irfaan Ali.
