Irmo High School is a public high school in Columbia, South Carolina, United States. Irmo High School falls under the administrative jurisdiction of District 5 of Lexington and Richland Counties. It is an International Baccalaureate school. Athletics Irmo's sports teams compete as the Yellow Jackets and participate in Class 4A SCHSL. The school has won 66 team state championships. Although Irmo had been the "Yellow Jackets" for many years, in 1978 a new logo was introduced. Prior to 1978, Irmo used a yellow jacket image for a logo similar to most schools that are known as yellow jackets. Leeza Kim Gibbons (born March 26, 1957) is an American talk show host. Courtney Amanda Shealy (born December 12, 1977), from Irmo, South Carolina, later known by her married name Courtney Hart, is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic gold medalist, and former world record-holder. Shealy swam the third leg of the world record-breaking women's 4×100-meter freestyle relay team that won gold at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Her winning teammates were Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres and Amy Van Dyken. Zach Prince
Zach Prince (born March 30, 1988 in Columbia, South Carolina) is a retired American soccer player who spent his entire professional career as a midfielder with the Charleston Battery in the United Soccer League. He is currently the head coach for New Mexico United. Career Youth and College Prince grew up in Irmo, South Carolina and attended Irmo High School playing soccer all four years while also a member of the USYSA Region III Pool team in 2003 and 2005. He played four years of college soccer at the College of Charleston as a striker. During his college years Prince also played for Colorado Rapids U23's and Chicago Fire Premier in the USL Premier Development League, and was part of the Chicago squad which reached the 2009 PDL Championship game. BJ McKie
Bjorn "BJ" McKie (born April 7, 1977) is an American former professional basketball player and current assistant coach at Wake Forest. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, McKie went to high school at Irmo High School and played for the University of South Carolina men's basketball team. In January 1999, he became the Gamecocks' all-time leading scorer, surpassing Alex English. The college retired his number 3 jersey in 2005. His son, Justin McKie, also starred at Irmo, and followed in his father's footsteps, playing four years at South Carolina.
