Irmino
Іrmino () is a city in Stakhanov Municipality, Luhansk Oblast (region) of Ukraine. Population: , . Since 2014, Irmino has been controlled by forces of the so-called Luhansk People's Republic and not by Ukrainian authorities. Geography Irmino is located 55 km west of Luhansk. It is part of the agglomeration Alchevsk-Kadiivka, in Donbas. It is located on the banks of the river Lougan. History Irmino was the first village of Petrovka/Petrivka (in uk, Петрівка) founded in 1808 on the right bank of the Lugan by peasants from the Poltava region and renamed Irminka in 1898, or Irmino (Ірміно) around 1910, after the coal mine named after Irma, daughter of the mine owner. In 1936, the village achieved city status and took on the name Teplohirsk in 1977. On July 8, 2010 the town was renamed Irmino. Alexey Stakhanov
Alexey Grigoryevich Stakhanov ( rus, Алексе́й Григо́рьевич Стаха́нов, p=staˈxanəf; 3 January 1906 – 5 November 1977) was a Soviet and Russian miner, Hero of Socialist Labour (1970), and a member of the CPSU (1936). He became a celebrity in 1935 as part of what became known as the Stakhanovite movement – a campaign intended to increase worker productivity and to demonstrate the superiority of the socialist economic system. Biography Stakhanov was born in Lugovaya (now in Izmalkovsky District), a village in the Livensky Uyezd of the Oryol Governorate of the Russian Empire in 1906. He began working in a mine called "Tsentralnaya-Irmino" (literally Central Irmino) in Kadiivka ( Donbas). In 1933, Stakhanov became a jackhammer operator. In 1935, he took a local course in mining. Kadiivka (), or Stakhanov (; ), is a city in the Luhansk Oblast (region) of eastern Ukraine occupied by Russia. The city is incorporated as a city of oblast significance. Its population is approximately . The city has been under the control of the self-declared Luhansk People's Republic since early 2014. Name Before 1937 the city was known as Kadiivka. From 1937 to 1940 the city was named Sergo or Serho ( uk, Серго) in honor of Sergo Ordzhonikidze, and then from 1940 to 1978 the city was again known as Kadiivka. On 15 February 1978 the city was named after the famous Soviet miner Alexey Stakhanov, who started his career there. Since 2014 the city has been occupied by Russian-backed militia troops as a part of self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). Donbas
The Donbas or Donbass (, ; uk, Донба́с ; russian: Донба́сс ) is a historical, cultural, and economic region in eastern Ukraine. Parts of the Donbas are controlled by Russian separatist groups as a result of the Russo-Ukrainian War: the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic. Alchevsk ( uk, Алчéвськ, translit. ''Alchevs'k''; russian: Алчéвск) is a city of significance in the Luhansk Oblast of Ukraine. It is located approximately from the oblast capital, Luhansk.
