The Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) (Irish language, Irish: ''Aontas Gailf na hÉireann (AGÉ)'') was the Sport governing body, governing body for men's and boy's amateur golf across the island of Ireland. Formed in 1891, the GUI was the first national golfing union to be established anywhere in the world, and operated separately from the (female) Irish Ladies Golf Union (ILGU) which was founded shortly afterwards in 1893. In 2018, the two "oldest governing bodies in world golf" agreed to amalgamate to form a new joint governing organisation, with this successor body, Golf Ireland, initially operating in a transitional capacity. The GUI ceased operations once Golf Ireland became fully operational on 1 January 2021 (holding its first general meeting in February 2021). Breanne Alicia Loucks (born 16 October 1987) is a Welsh professional golfer. She had a successful amateur career, playing in two Curtis Cup matches, in 2006 and 2008. She turned professional in early 2009 and played on the Ladies European Tour until 2011 when injury curtailed her career. Amateur career In 2007, she won the Welsh Ladies' Amateur Championship, beating Tara Davies in the final. Lisa Maguire (born 30 November 1994) is a former Irish professional golfer. In 2011, she was ranked as high as 10th in the world on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. She retired in 2019. Life A native of County Cavan, her parents are schoolteachers Declan and Breda Maguire. At the age of 9 she gave up a swimming career to concentrate on golf, after breaking her arm in a playground accident. She is 15 minutes older than her twin sister Leona who is also a professional golfer. Stephanie Meadow (born 20 January 1992) is a Northern Irish professional golfer who played for the University of Alabama and made her professional debut at the 2014 U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst. Emily Taylor (1795 – 11 March 1872) was an English schoolmistress, poet, children's author, and hymnist. She wrote numerous tales for children, chiefly historical, along with books of instruction and some descriptive natural history. Early life and education Emily Howson Taylor was born in 1795, in Banham, Norfolk. She was the daughter of Samuel Taylor, of New Buckenham, Norfolk, a niece of John Taylor, of Norwich, a hymn writer, and a great-granddaughter of Dr John Taylor, a Hebraist.
