Irish Museums Association
The Irish Museums Association (IMA) is an all-Ireland professional membership body dedicated to the promotion and development of museums. History The Irish Museums Association grew out of the Ireland branch of the International Council of Museums in 1977, established by a voluntary executive committee led by James White, director of the National Gallery of Ireland (1964–80), to protect the interests of Irish museums. In 2004, it registered as a operating as a non-profit company limited by guarantee and hired its first member of staff. Dr Audrey Whitty, head of collections and learning at National Museum of Ireland is the current chair of the governing board of directors, replacing William Blair, director of collections at National Museums NI in 2020. EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum
EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, located in Dublin's Docklands, covers the history of the Irish diaspora and emigration to other countries. It was designed by the London-based design firm Event Communications, and was voted as "Europe's Leading Tourist Attraction" at the 2019, 2020 and 2021 World Travel Awards. Creation EPIC is a privately owned museum, founded by Neville Isdell, former chairman and chief executive of The Coca-Cola Company, who was born in County Down. During 2015, an advisory group was assembled to consult on the development of EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. In May 2016, EPIC was officially opened by former President of Ireland Mary Robinson. The Dutch Museum Association (Dutch: ''De Museumvereniging'') is an association of museums in the Netherlands. Over five hundred museums are affiliated with the association. History In 1926, the Museumvereniging was established as a meeting of museum directors in the Netherlands. In 2003, the Museumkaart foundation was integrated into the Dutch Museum Association organisation. In 2006, the Museumvereniging became an umbrella organisation for the Dutch museums organised into ten subject-specific areas. Birmingham Museums Trust is the largest independent charitable trust of museums in the United Kingdom. It runs nine museum sites across the city of Birmingham, including Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) and Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum, with a total of more than 1.1 million visits per year. The Trust was founded in April 2012 through the merger of the Birmingham City Council-owned Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery and the Thinktank charitable trust. The Irish Film Institute (IFI; ), formerly the Irish Film Centre, is both an arthouse cinema and a national body that supports Irish film heritage.
