Ireland In The Eurovision Song Contest 2004
Ireland was represented by Chris Doran and the song "If My World Stopped Turning" in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. Before Eurovision You're a Star RTÉ used the '' You're a Star'' talent contest to select the Irish entry for the Eurovision. The competition started on 16 November 2003. Thirteen artists participated in the finals, which ended on 6 and 7 March 2004. Ten out of 13 finalists were chosen through regional audition heats and the jury gave wildcards to the remaining three. The finals started on Sunday 18 January 2003 and each week one artist had to leave the competition. Chris Doran
Christopher Doran (born 22 November 1979) is an Irish singer from Waterford. He was the winner of Ireland's '' You're a Star'' 2003-2004 talent search competition to find Ireland's Eurovision Song Contest entry. The competition held auditions throughout Ireland, and the winners went through to the final stages, with one act eventually decided on. The show was aired on RTÉ. He went on to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with "If My World Stopped Turning". Eurovision Song Contest 2004
The Eurovision Song Contest 2004 was the 49th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Istanbul, Turkey, following the country's victory at the with the song "Everyway That I Can" by Sertab Erener. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), the contest was held at the Abdi İpekçi Arena, and, for the first time, consisted of a semi-final on 12 May, and a final on 15 May 2004. The two live shows were presented by Turkish actors Korhan Abay and Meltem Cumbul. It was the first time that Turkey had hosted the contest, 29 years after the country made its debut, and was also the first time since the contest in Birmingham that it was not hosted in the host country's capital city. ''You're a Star'' is an Irish music competition series broadcast by RTÉ One from 2002 to 2008. Produced by the broadcaster and Screentime ShinAwiL, the series was similar to formats such as ''Idol'' and ''The X Factor''. For its first three series, ''You're a Star'' was used to choose the musician who would perform the Irish entry at the Eurovision Song Contest. In later series, the grand prize was changed to a recording contract with Universal Music Ireland (with the Irish selection now conducted via the Eurosong qualifier, whose finals are hosted by '' The Late Late Show''), and later music equipment and €50,000. Laura McNamara, known professionally as Lyra, is an Irish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Early life and musical development Lyra grew up in County Cork, Ireland. In an interview with the ''Irish Independent'', she told of her early love of singing and performing.
