Iraqi Football Association
The Iraq Football Association (IFA) ( ar, الاتحاد العراقي لكرة القدم) is the governing body of football in Iraq, controlling the Iraqi national team and the Iraqi Premier League. The Iraqi Football Association was founded in 1948 and has been a member of FIFA since 1950, the Asian Football Confederation since 1970, and the Sub-confederation regional body West Asian Football Federation since 2001. Iraq is also part of the Union of Arab Football Associations and has been a member since 1974. The Iraqi team is commonly known as ''Usood Al-Rafidain'' ( ar, أسود الرافدين), which literally means ''Lions of Mesopotamia''. Asian Football Confederation
The Asian Football Confederation is the governing body of association football, beach soccer, and futsal in some countries/territories in Asia and Oceania. It has 47 member countries most of which are located in Asia. Australia, formerly in Oceania Football Confederation, OFC, joined AFC in 2006. Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, both Territories of the United States, territories of the United States, are also AFC members that are geographically in Oceania. The Asian Ladies Football Confederation (ALFC) was the section of AFC who managed women's association football in Asia. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya
Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya ( ar, نادي القوة الجوية الرياضي, lit=Air Force Club) is an Iraqi sports club based in Rusafa District, Baghdad that competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1931, it is the oldest existing club in Iraq. Its football team is one of the most successful in Iraq having won seven Iraqi Premier League titles, most recently in the 2020–21 season, which it won alongside its fifth Iraq FA Cup title. The club also won a joint-record three Iraqi Elite Cups, and in 1996–97 it became the first of only two clubs to win all four major national trophies (League, FA Cup, Elite Cup, Super Cup) in the same season. Al-Shorta Sports Club ( ar, نادي الشرطة الرياضي, lit=''Police Sports Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. It has teams in 17 different sports, more than any other Iraqi club, and the best known section of the club is the football team, whose origins date back to 1932. In 1974, following the Iraq Football Association's decision to implement a clubs-only policy for domestic competitions, Al-Shorta were established as a sports club. Al-Shorta are one of Iraq's most successful clubs, having been crowned the inaugural Arab Club Champions Cup winners in 1982, and are the current Iraqi Premier League champions, winning their fifth title in the 2021–22 season. The 2021–22 Iraqi Premier League is the 48th season of the Iraqi Premier League, the highest tier football league in Iraq, since its establishment in 1974. The season started on 20 September 2021 and will end on 29 May 2022. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya are the defending champions after winning their seventh title last season. Al-Sinaa, Newroz and Samarra join as the three promoted clubs from the 2020–21 Iraq Division One. The Iraqi Women's Football League ( ar, الدوري العراقي للسيدات) is the league competition for women's football in Iraq. It is run by the Iraq Football Association and was first played in the 2015–16 season. The league currently consists of seven teams. Iraqi Super Cup
The Iraqi Super Cup ( ar, كأس السوبر العراقي), previously called Iraqi Perseverance Cup ( ar, كأس المثابرة العراقي), is Iraqi football's annual match contested between the champions of the previous Iraqi Premier League season and the holders of the Iraq FA Cup. If the Premier League champions also won the FA Cup then the league runners-up provide the opposition. The fixture is a recognised football super cup. Extra-time is not played in the case of a draw; the game goes straight to penalties instead. The current holders are Al-Shorta, who defeated Al-Karkh 1–0 in the 2022 match. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). Iraq Division One
The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. The number of clubs in the league have changed throughout history, most recently in the 2021–22 season when the number of clubs decreased from 28 to 24.
