Iraqi Constitutional Monarchy
The Iraqi Constitutional Monarchy (ICM) is a monarchist political party in Iraq formerly led by the late Sharif Ali bin al-Hussein. Al-Hussein was related to the Hashemite royal family which ruled Iraq until 1958. He had succeeded in establishing himself as a claimant in the international press and (in the politics of Iraq). Prince Sharif Ali bin al-Hussein was the only Iraqi royal campaigning in Iraq for the return of a monarchy based on a constitutional monarchy. Some critics asserted he was not even in line to the throne according to the constitution of the old Iraqi monarchy (The Iraqi Constitution as amended in November 1943). According to this constitution, the heir to the monarchy would be Prince Prince Ra'ad, Ra'ad (born 1936), Lord Chamberlain of Jordan, and the heir apparent Prince Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad, Zeid bin Ra'ad, a former Jordanian diplomat who was active within the United Nations. Sharif Ali Bin al-Hussein ( ar, الشريف علي بن الحسين; 1956 – 14 March 2022) was the leader of the Iraqi Constitutional Monarchy political party and claimed to be the legitimate heir to the position of King of Iraq, based on his relationship to the last monarch, the late King Faisal II. Early life After the loss of Mecca, Sharif Ali's parents settled in Iraq where the sister of his mother Badiya was queen consort. He was born in Iraq and his maternal first cousin was Faisal II of Iraq, the last king of Iraq, his maternal grandfather was Ali bin Hussein, last King of Hejaz, and his paternal grandfather was the uncle of both Faisal I of Iraq and Ali bin Hussein. 'Abd al-Ilah was his uncle.
