Iraklis Thessaloniki Women's Basketball
G.S. Iraklis Thessaloniki ( el, Γ.Σ. Ηρακλής Θεσσαλονίκης) is the women's basketball department of G.S. Iraklis Thessaloniki, the Greek multi-sports club based in Thessaloniki. The club plays in A2 Ethniki (2nd tier). They have won four Greek Championships, in 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1971. History G.S. Iraklis Thessaloniki (Women's Basketball) was the first champion of the Greek Women's Basketball League, in 1967. Iraklis won even three championships, in 1968, 1971 and 1972. Nevertheless, the next years the club was weakened. The last presence in A1 Ethniki was the season 2018-2019, when it finished one place above the last place and was relegated. The Greek Women's Basketball Cup is the national women's basketball cup competition of Greece. It began with the 1995–96 season, and it is organised by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK). So far, eleven clubs have won the cup. Most of them are based in the Athens Urban Area. Ivanofeio Sports Arena ( el, Ιβανώφειο Κλειστό Γυμναστήριο, ) is an indoor sports arena that is located in Thessaloniki, Greece. Its capacity is 2,500 spectators, and it is mainly used as the home court of the Greek professional basketball club Iraklis. Location Ivanofeio Sports Arena is located in the city centre of Thessaloniki, next to the campus of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It can be accessed by bus lines 15, 17, and 37. History Ivanofeio Sports Arena opened in 1987, to host the games of Iraklis. Greek Women's Basketball League
The Greek women's Basketball League, also known as A1 Ethniki (A1 National) Women's Basketball is the most important competition of Greek women's professional basketball. It is organised by the EOK (Hellenic Basketball Federation). It began with the 1967–68 season. The first championship of the league, which was held in the 1967–68 season, was organised by ΕΟΑΠ (Greek: ''Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Αθλοπαιδιών''). Two years later, the EOK assumed control of the competition. Iraklis Thessaloniki won the inaugural championship of the league, in the 1967–68 season. Gymnasticos Syllogos Iraklis ( el, Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Ηρακλής, en, Gymnastics Club Heracles), commonly referred to as Iraklis, is a Greek multi-sports club based in Thessaloniki. The club was founded in 1908 as "Macedonikos Gymnasticos Syllogos" (''Macedonian Gymnastics Club'') and is one of the oldest and most historic sports-clubs in Greece. It is named after Heracles, the mythical Greek demigod. Their colours are blue or cyan and white, inspired by the Greek flag. Iraklis traces its roots back in 1899 when ''Omilos Filomouson'' (meaning ''Friends of Music Club'') was established.
