Iowa Senate, District 44
The 44th District of the Iowa Senate is located in southeastern Iowa, and is currently composed of Keokuk, Jefferson, and Van Buren Counties, as well as part of Mahaska and Henry Counties. Current elected officials Adrian Dickey is the senator currently representing the 44th District. The area of the 44th District contains two Iowa House of Representatives districts: *The 87th District (represented by Dennis Cohoon) *The 88th District (represented by David Kerr) The district is also located in Iowa's 2nd congressional district, which is represented by Mariannette Miller-Meeks. Dennis Cohoon
Dennis M. Cohoon (born March 29, 1953) is the Iowa State Representative from the 87th District. He has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 1987. Education Cohoon graduated from Burlington High School in 1971. After graduating high school, he attended Southeastern Community College where he earned an associate degree in business. He received his BA in business administration and business education with minors in special education and psychology from Iowa Wesleyan College. He has also done graduate work in special education at the University of Iowa. Leonard Boswell
Leonard Leroy Boswell (January 10, 1934 – August 17, 2018) was an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for from 1997 to 2013, a district based in Des Moines. A member of the Democratic Party, he was defeated for reelection in 2012 by 4th district incumbent Tom Latham, who decided to run against him after redistricting. Boswell left Congress in January 2013. Early life, education and career Boswell was born in Harrison County, Missouri, the son of Margaret and Melvin Boswell. Albert Sorensen
Albert "Al" Sorensen (born February 19, 1932) served as a Democratic Iowa State Senator from 1991 to 1997. He joined the Senate after winning a special election in 1991, his predecessor, Jack Nystrom (R- Boone), having resigned to serve on the Iowa Liquor Commission. He won re-election in 1992, but lost in 1996 to Republican Jerry Behn. During his second term in the Senate, Sorensen served on several committees in the Iowa Senate - the Agriculture committee; the Natural Resources, Environment and Energy committee; the Small Business, Economic Development & Tourism committee; the State Government committee; and the Local Government committee, where he was the chair. John Nystrom (politician)
John Williams Nystrom ( sv, Johan Vilhelm Nyström) (1825–1885) was a Swedish born, American civil engineer, inventor, and author. He served as an assistant Secretary and Chief Engineer of the United States Navy during the American Civil War. Background He was born Johan Vilhelm Nyström in Småland province, Sweden. He received his engineering degree from the Royal Institute of Technology (''Kungliga Tekniska högskolan'') in Stockholm, Sweden. Mariannette Jane Miller-Meeks (born September 6, 1955) is an American physician and politician serving as the U.S. representative from Iowa's 2nd congressional district since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Miller-Meeks served as Iowa state senator for the 41st district from 2019 to 2021. Her district includes most of Iowa's southeastern quadrant, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Burlington, Iowa City, and Miller-Meeks's hometown of Ottumwa.
