The Ionia Correctional Facility (ICF), also known as "I-Max" after its maximum security housing units, is a U.S. state prison located in Ionia, Michigan. The prison was opened in 1987 and consists of five maximum security level V housing units and two medium security level II housing units. Baraga Correctional Facility
Baraga Correctional Facility (AMF) is a Michigan prison, located in Baraga, for adult male prisoners. While it includes a Level I security facility, it is primarily a maximum security prison. Facility The prison was opened in 1993 and has eight housing units currently used for Michigan Department of Corrections male prisoners 18 years of age and older. One of the housing units has 280 beds for Level I (lower level security) prisoners. The other seven housing units are for Level V (maximum security) prisoners. Four of the Level V housing units are used by the general prison population, and two are used for segregating inmates from the general prison population. List Of Michigan State Prisons
This is a list of current and former state prisons and minimum security prison camps in Michigan. It does not include federal prisons or county jails located in that State. All facilities not otherwise indicated are facilities for men. Michigan State Prison (also called the Jackson Prison) was the first state prison, built in 1842. A larger prison building was built in 1926 and used until 2007. It was reorganized into separate prisons in 1988. The Detroit House of Corrections, built in 1861, was owned and run by the city of Detroit but originally accepted prisoners from throughout the state including women. The Detroit House of Corrections was transferred to the state in 1986, renamed to Western Wayne Correctional Facility, and became a women's facility for the rest of its tenure. It eventually closed in December 2004 and all inmates and staff were transferred to the Huron Valley Complex in Ypsilanti. Standish is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,458 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Arenac County. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. Standish is located roughly 5.2 miles from the Saginaw Bay. Climate History The town was platted by John D. Standish in 1871, who owned all of the land in the vicinity. Before the plat was formally recorded, Standish sold off some of his land in the area. Standish Maximum Correctional Facility (SMF) was a Michigan Department of Corrections maximum security prison in Standish, Michigan. The men's prison was on the south side of M-61. It was once considered as a potential site for housing detainees to be relocated from the prison in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. The facility was in operation for 19 years, and while empty, still stands to this day. History The prison opened in 1990. Although scheduled to close on October 1, 2009, interest in the prison was shortly raised by the prospects of it housing relocated Guantanamo Bay prisoners in the continental United States. Baraga ( ) is a village in Baraga County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,883 at the 2020 census. The village is named after Bishop Frederic Baraga.
