Investigación y Proyectos de Vehículos Especiales, S.A. (IPV) was a Spanish heavy vehicle manufacturer based in A Pontenova, Galicia. IPV's parent company, Mafsa, started in 1965 as a joint venture of three local automotive workshops. They had for some years re-conditioned ex-Spanish Civil War light 4x4 trucks, mostly of Italian OM manufacture, and fitted them with diesel engines. The first Mafsa product was a narrow-width truck, with a very elementary cab and either a Barreiros or Perkins engine, specifically designed for the northwestern Spain logging industry, and nicknamed ''carroceta''. As Mafsa had no sales network, the ''carrocetas'' were only sold from the plant. Nevertheless they were quite successful, and allowed Mafsa to expand into more general-purpose 4x4 trucks, which were specially in demand for fire-fighting and construction off-road applications. UROVESA
URO, Vehículos Especiales, S.A. (UROVESA) is a Spanish heavy vehicle manufacturer based in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia. It is best known for the production of the URO VAMTAC, a Humvee-like four-wheel drive motor vehicle, and URO trucks. History The company was founded in 1981 by a group of former employees of IPV. Uro (trucks)
Uro (Both Galician and Spanish for "aurochs") is a Spanish brand of all-wheel-drive and military trucks, based in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia. The Uro parent company, Urovesa, was started in 1981 by a group of ex- IPV employees. They quickly established themselves as a leading player in the 4x4 rural fire-fighting and construction Spanish truck markets. From 1984 on, they became certified provider of the Spanish Army, which currently operates more of two thousand of Uro vehicles, including the well-known URO VAMTAC (Vehículo de Alta Movilidad Táctico / High Mobility Tactical Vehicle), equipped with a 190 hp Steyr diesel engine, while most of the other Uro ranges feature Iveco engines. A semi-trailer is a trailer without a front axle. In the United States, the term is also used to refer to the combination of a truck and a semi-trailer; a tractor-trailer. A large proportion of a semi-trailer's weight is supported by a tractor unit, or a detachable front-axle assembly known as a dolly, or the tail of another trailer. The other portion of the semi-trailer's weight is semi-supported (half-supported) by its own wheels, which only support the rear of the semi-trailer. A Pontenova is a municipality in the Spanish province of Lugo. It has a population of 3199 (Spanish 2003 Census) and an area of 136 km². Barreiros was a Spanish manufacturer of engines, trucks, buses and automobiles. It was a Chrysler Europe subsidiary from 1969 to 1978. History The company was founded in 1954 as "Barreiros Diesel S.A." by Eduardo Barreiros and based in Madrid.
