''Intimate Cabaret'' was a British television programme broadcast from 1937 to 1939 on BBC Television. It was one of several spin-offs from the BBC series ''Cabaret''. It was a live variety programme. There were 24 episodes. The first seven were produced by Harry Pringle and the last two by Eric Fawcett; the producers of the others are not known. No episode has survived.The programme was broadcast live. Methods to record live television did not exist until late 1947, and were rarely used by the BBC until around 195355. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical theatre, musical performances, sketch comedy, magic (illusion), magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. It is normally introduced by a Master of Ceremonies, compère (master of ceremonies) or Television presenter, host. The variety format made its way from the Victorian era stage in Britain and America to radio and then television. Variety shows were a staple of English language television from the late 1940s into the 1980s. Magda Kun (17 February 1912 – 7 November 1945) was a Hungarian stage and film actress. She was born at Szászrégen and made her stage debut in Budapest. She married actor Steven Geray in 1934, appearing alongside him in the 1935 film ''Dance Band''. Kun died in 1945, in London, aged 33 years. ''Cabaret Cruise'' is a live variety programme series broadcast 193739, 1946 and 1949 on BBC Television. It was one of several spin-offs from the BBC series ''Cabaret''. Its distinctive feature was that it was set on the fictional ship RMS ''Sunshine'', constructed in the studio. All 15 episodes were presented by British naval officer and broadcaster Commander Campbell and produced by Harry Pringle. An episode had been planned for October 1939; it was not broadcast, because BBC Television suspended operations with the outbreak of World War II on 1 September 1939. In 1940, Pringle relocated to Australia. ''Cabaret Cartoons'' is a live light entertainment series broadcast by BBC Television 193639 and 1946.BBC Television suspended broadcasting on 1 September 1939 with the outbreak of World War II, and did not resume until June 1946. It was a spin-off from the series ''Cabaret''. Its distinctive feature was that English artist Harry Rutherford (190385) drew cartoon sketches of the performers during the broadcast. Oliver Wakefield (29 May 1909 – 30 June 1956) was a popular British actor and comedian, born in South Africa, who was active from the 1930s until his death in 1956. Often billed as "The Voice of Inexperience", Wakefield is best known for his idiosyncratic satirical monologues. Biography Born in Mahlabathini, Natal, Wakefield was educated in South Africa, then traveled to England, where he began acting with a Shakespearean repertory company. He then attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts for further study, where he developed his distinctive style of humorous monologue. Wakefield created the stage persona of a nervous upper class young man, customarily dressed in full dinner suit and habitually carrying a cigarette. Irene Prador
Irene Prador (née Peiser; 16 July 1911, in Vienna – 8 July 1996, in Berlin) was an Austrian-born actress and writer. Biography Prador was born as Irene Peiser, the daughter of Dr. Alfred Peiser and actress Rose Lissmann, and sister of actress Lilli Palmer. She emigrated to France in 1933, following the rise of Nazism; and appeared in cabaret there with her sister.
