Cabaret Cruise
''Cabaret Cruise'' is a live variety programme series broadcast 193739, 1946 and 1949 on BBC Television. It was one of several spin-offs from the BBC series ''Cabaret''. Its distinctive feature was that it was set on the fictional ship RMS ''Sunshine'', constructed in the studio. All 15 episodes were presented by British naval officer and broadcaster Commander Campbell and produced by Harry Pringle. An episode had been planned for October 1939; it was not broadcast, because BBC Television suspended operations with the outbreak of World War II on 1 September 1939. In 1940, Pringle relocated to Australia. He was in England 194647 between spells of employment at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and in 1949 on leave of absence, and produced episodes on both occasions. Charles Heslop
Charles Heslop (8 June 1883 in Thames Ditton, England – 13 April 1966) was a British actor. His stage successes include a musical version of '' Tons of Money'', which toured Australia for Hugh J. Ward in 1924, co-starring Dot Brunton. He starred in the BBC television comedy Percy Ponsonby as a talkative barber. The series was broadcast in 1939, and was cancelled with the outbreak of the Second World War. In 1954 he appeared in William Douglas Home's ''The Manor of Northstead'' in the West End. In 1960 he appeared in the comedy thriller play ''Settled Out of Court''. Two years later he featured at Wyndham's Theatre in Arthur Watkyn's '' Out of Bounds''. ''Eastern Cabaret'' was a live variety programme series broadcast in 193839 on BBC Television. It was one of several spin-offs from the BBC series ''Cabaret''. Four episodes were broadcast; they were produced by Harry Pringle, the first was compered by Nelun Devi, the next two were compered by Cyril Fletcher, and the last by Hari Sin Bey. The BBC television service was suspended on 1 September 1939 with the outbreak of World War II, and no further episodes were made. According to '' Radio Times'' (20 May 1938), "Harry Pringle, Reginald Smith's officemate, is having a busy time preparing for his ''Eastern Cabaret'', to be given next week on Monday, May 30, and Saturday, June 4. ''Cabaret Cartoons'' is a live light entertainment series broadcast by BBC Television 193639 and 1946.BBC Television suspended broadcasting on 1 September 1939 with the outbreak of World War II, and did not resume until June 1946. It was a spin-off from the series ''Cabaret''. Its distinctive feature was that English artist Harry Rutherford (190385) drew cartoon sketches of the performers during the broadcast. Rutherford did not speak: the producer, Cecil Madden, decreed that his Mancunian accent was inappropriate to be heard on the BBC. No episodes have survived.The programme was broadcast live. Eric Robinson (conductor)
Eric Robinson (13 December 1908 – 24 July 1974) was a conductor and presenter of music for the BBC. During World War II, Robinson served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps: in 1943, he was with the depot band at Chilwell Central Ordnance Depot, and conducted "The Blue Rockets", a section of the band who provided light music. He was twice the musical director of the Eurovision Song Contest when staged in London in 1960 and 1963 and on other occasions between 1957 and 1965, Robinson conducted the orchestra accompanying the United Kingdom's entry in the competition. In 1962, he provided the financial support and backing for the Mellotron tape-replay keyboard, and was heavily involved in the original marketing and promotion. Joy Eileen Nichols (17 February 1925 – 23 June 1992) was an Australian-British comedian, actress and singer who also worked in the United States. She was best known as one of the stars of ''Take It From Here'' on BBC Radio. Biography Nichols, born in Sydney, Australia, was originally part of a song-and-dance double act with her brother George.
