Interstate 64 (I-64) in the US state of Illinois is a major east–west Interstate Highway that runs through southern Illinois from the St. Louis metropolitan area east to the Indiana state line near Grayville, Illinois. It travels a distance of . Route description I-64 enters Illinois running concurrently with I–55 and U.S. Route 40 (US 40) over the Mississippi River on the Poplar Street Bridge. After splitting from these highways in East St. Louis, I-64 turns southeasterly and proceeds through St. Clair County towards the Belleville area traveling through the eastern/southeastern St. Louis suburbs of Caseyville, Fairview Heights, O'Fallon, and Shiloh. A Jersey barrier, Jersey wall, or Jersey bump is a modular concrete or plastic barrier employed to separate lanes of traffic. It is designed to minimize vehicle damage in cases of incidental contact while still preventing vehicle crossovers resulting in a likely head-on collision. Mascoutah is a city in St. Clair County, Illinois, United States, named for the Mascoutens, a tribe of the Michigan Indians. The population was 7,483 at the 2010 census. According to the US Census Bureau, the population was estimated at 7,994 in 2019. History The town of Mascoutah was originally established in 1837 as Mechanicsburg. Scott Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base in St. Clair County, Illinois, near Belleville and O'Fallon, east-southeast of downtown St. Louis. Scott Field was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entered World War I in April 1917. It is headquarters of Air Mobility Command (AMC), and is also the headquarters of the U.S. Transportation Command, a Unified Combatant Command that coordinates transportation across all the services. Caseyville, Illinois
Caseyville is a village in St. Clair County, Illinois, St. Clair County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,245 at the 2010 census, a decline from 4,310 in 2000. History A wealthy man named Charles Harbour built a house here, and in 1845 built a sawmill. There were deposits of coal in the area, and Harbour was one of several members of the Illinois Coal Company, along with Zadok Casey, Walter Seates, Malcomb Robinson, Charles Barrett and John Roy.
