Intersindical Canaria
''Intersindical Canaria'' is a left-wing nationalist trade union movement in the Canary Islands. History ''Intersindical Canaria'' was founded in 1994, through the merger of ''Confederación Autónoma Nacionalista de Canarias'' (CANC), ''Sindicato Obrero de Canarias'' (SOC), ''Confederación Canaria de Trabajadores'' (CCT), ''Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Enseñanza de Canarias'' (STEC, teachers' union) and ''Sindicato Canario de la Salud'' (health care union). The organization advocates independence of the Canary Islands from Spain. It has a socialist and feminist profile. ''Intersindical Canaria'' joined the World Federation of Trade Unions in the period of 2006-2010. The organization held its fourth congress in La Laguna in October 2009. In 2017 Aisha Hernández, a member of the union, was jailed after an altercation with the police when he made a graffiti that read "75% youth unemployment". The case has been very controversial. World Federation Of Trade Unions
The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) is an international federation of trade unions established in 1945. Founded in the immediate aftermath of World War Two, the organization built on the pre-war legacy of the International Federation of Trade Unions as a single structure for trade unions world-wide. With the emergence of the Cold War in the late 1940s, the WFTU splintered, with most trade unions from the Western-aligned countries leaving and creating the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) in 1949. Throughout the Cold War, membership of the WFTU was made up predominantly of trade unions from the Soviet-aligned and non-aligned countries. However, there were notable exceptions to this, such as the Yugoslav and Chinese unions, which departed following the Tito-Stalin and Sino-Soviet splits, respectively, or the French CGT and Italian CGIL unions, who were members. The Canary Islands (; es, Canarias, ), also known informally as the Canaries, are a Spanish autonomous community and archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, in Macaronesia. Sindicato Obrero De Canarias
''Sindicato Obrero Canario'' (Canarian Workers Trade Union, abbreviated SOC) was a nationalist trade union movement in the Canary Islands. It was founded as an underground movement in 1976, under the leadership of the Canarian Communist Party (Provisional). The union was legalized in 1977. History SOC was a relatively important force in the labour movement on Gran Canaria, but less so on Tenerife. SOC came in fourth place (ahead of other nationalist forces in the fray) in the trade union elections in the Canary Islands in 1978. In total SOC managed to get 240 representatives elected (around 7.4% of the total number of delegates of the archipelago). It came in third place on Gran Canaria with 49 delegates. Canarian nationalism is a political movement that encourages the national consciousness of the Canarian people. The term includes several ideological trends, ranging from the right to self-determination (and complete independence from Spain) to a demand for further autonomy within Spain. Self-government through history The origins of the Canarian people started with the Spanish conquest of the islands, when the local Guanche Berber population were conquered and eventually assimilated and European-style manorialism introduced in most of the islands. During the last days of the conquest, on 30 May 1481, an aboriginal leader from Gran Canaria called Tenesor Semidán (afterwards baptized as Fernando Guanarteme) signed a peace treaty with Fernando II of Aragon, in the so-called Carta de Calatayud.
