The Bureau international des expositions (BIE; English language, English: International Bureau of Expositions) is an intergovernmental organization created to supervise international exhibitions (also known as expos or world expos) falling under the jurisdiction of the ''Convention Relating to International Exhibitions''. Founding and purpose The BIE was established by the Convention Relating to International Exhibitions, signed in Paris on 22 November 1928, with the following goals: *to oversee the calendar, the bidding, the selection and the organization of World Expositions; and *to establish a regulatory framework under which Expo organizers and participants may work together under the best conditions. Today, 170 member countries have adhered to the BIE Convention. World's Fair
A world's fair, also known as a universal exhibition or an expo, is a large international exhibition designed to showcase the achievements of nations. These exhibitions vary in character and are held in different parts of the world at a specific site for a period of time, typically between three and six months. The term "world's fair" is commonly used in the United States, while the French term, ("universal exhibition") is used in most of Europe and Asia; other terms include World Expo or Specialised Expo, with the word expo used for various types of exhibitions since at least 1958.
