International Chinese Language Program
The International Chinese Language Program (ICLP; ) is an institution for intensive training in formal Mandarin, Taiwanese, Classical Chinese, and other varieties of Chinese. It is located in Gongguan, Taipei, on the main campus of National Taiwan University (NTU). History The center was established in 1961 by Stanford University to meet the stringent research and educational needs of Stanford University students. A seal is a device for making an impression in wax, clay, paper, or some other medium, including an embossment on paper, and is also the impression thus made. Weldon South Coblin, Jr. (born February 26, 1944) is an American Sinologist, linguist, and educator, best known for his studies of Chinese linguistics and Tibetan. Life and career Coblin attended the University of Washington as an undergraduate student, graduating with a B.A. in Chinese in 1967. He then continued on at Washington as a graduate student under the Belgian Sinologist and Roman Catholic clergyman Fr. Paul Serruys, earning a Ph.D. in Chinese language and literature in 1972 with a dissertation entitled "An Introductory Study of Textual and Linguistic Problems in '' Erh-ya''". David Coates (born 13 November 1947) is a retired British diplomat, scholar, former Ambassador to Ivory Coast and Director General of the British Trade & Cultural Office (BTCO) in Taipei. Coates was educated at the History Department, University of Bristol, then he studied Mandarin at the Stanford Center of National Taiwan University from 1972 to 1973, and taught in Taiwanese cram schools.
