Interexpress
Interexpress (abbreviated as "''IEx''") is a former international train category. The word ''Interexpress'' is a short form version of the German language term (English: ''International Express'') and its foreign language equivalents. Interexpress services operated between 1986 and 1991 as express trains between Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic (GDR), Hungary and Poland. History In the mid 1980s, the State railways of Czechoslovakia ( Československé státní dráhy (ČSD)), the GDR (Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR)), Hungary (Magyar Államvasutak (MÁV)) and Poland (Polskie Koleje Państwowe (PKP)) decided to introduce the Interexpress train category for high value passenger train traffic between these four countries. ''Progress'' was an express train between Prague, then the capital of Czechoslovakia, and the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Introduced in 1974, ''Progress'' went through a number of iterations, and also endured a one-year period off the rails, until it ceased running altogether in about 1990. Hungaria (train)
Hungaria () is a EuroCity train which runs between Budapest Nyugati and Hamburg - Altona, currently running with coaches of MÁV. It is numbered as ''EC 252-253'' and runs daily, mainly with MÁV owned rolling stocks. History Earlier numbering included ''EC 170-171'', ''EC 174-175'', ''IEx 74/75'' and ''Ex 154/155''. The Hungaria international express train is one of the oldest express trains still in operation. Its first run between Budapest and Berlin via Prague was on 29 May 1960 with a diesel locomotive. Primator (train)
The ''Primator'' was an international express train. Introduced in 1986, it ran between Prague, then the capital of Czechoslovakia, and East Berlin, then the capital of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Following the major political changes that took place in Central Europe in the second half of 1989, Prague became the capital of the Czech Republic, East Berlin was absorbed by Berlin and the GDR by Germany. In 1993, under the influence of all of these changes, the ''Primator'' was replaced by a new EuroCity train, the '' Porta Bohemica''. History The ''Primator'' first ran in 1986. Berolina (train)
Berolina was a named passenger train between Warsaw and Berlin via Frankfurt (Oder). Introduced in 1959, it went through a number of iterations, including a short period without a name. Part of the Interexpress network as IEx 242/243 from 1986, it became categorised as EuroCity trains 42 and 43 in 1992. The service was finally replaced by the Berlin-Warszawa-Express in 2002. Berolina is reintroduced as an ICE train from Berlin to Vienna in 2018. The train's name, ''Berolina'', is the New Latin name for Berlin and the allegorical female figure symbolizing the city. Vindobona (train)
The ''Vindobona'' is an international named passenger train which began service in 1957 between Berlin and Vienna via Dresden and Prague. In later years the route was extended to run from Hamburg via Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Brno and Vienna to Villach. It was named after the ancient settlement of Vindobona on the site of the modern city of Vienna. Labelled as a EuroCity train connection from 1993, services discontinued in 2014. Since December 2018 there is a daily direct Intercity-Express high-speed train between Vienna and Berlin via Linz, Passau and Erfurt. The name ''Vindobona'' is now used for Railjet trains between Prague and Graz via Vienna operated by České dráhy and Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). Schnellzug
A ''Schnellzug'' is an express train in German-speaking countries, where it refers to trains that do not stop at all stations along a line. The term is used both generically and also as a specific train type. In Germany and Austria it is also referred to colloquially as a ''D-Zug'', a short form of ''Durchgangszug'' ("through train"), and express train services were often given numbers preceded by the letter ''D''. The similar term, ''snälltåg'', was used in Sweden until January 1980. In rail terminology, a through coach is a passenger car (coach) that is re-marshalled during the course of its journey. It begins the journey attached to one train, and arrives at its destination attached to another train. Through coaches save their transit passengers the need to change trains themselves. Couchette Car
A couchette car is a railway carriage conveying non or semi-private sleeping accommodation. Overview The car is divided into a number of compartments (typically 8 to 10) accessed from the side corridor of the car, which in daytime are configured with a bench seat along each long side of the compartment. At an appropriate time in the journey, the attendant who travels in the car (or by agreement the passengers booked in the compartment) converts the compartment into its night-time configuration with two (1st class) or three (2nd class) bunks on each long side of the compartment, creating a total of four bunks in first class and six in second class.
