Blue Badge Tourist Guides are a body of commonly associated tourist guides in the United Kingdom. They wear a Blue Badge to indicate their membership of this formalised association. They are recognised by local tourist bodies throughout the UK, and by Visit Britain as tourist guides in Britain who are assessed by the Institute Of Tourist Guiding. There are over 2000 Blue Badge guides in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, who guide at Britain's tourist attractions and cities. Some guides run guided walking tours on themes such as Jack the Ripper and The Beatles. History The Blue Badge was founded in 1950 by seven guides who met at the The George Inn, Southwark, George Inn in Southwark. In 1989, eighty guides formed a union for London Blue Badge guides. Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB color model, RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB color model, RGB (additive) colour model. Allan Brigham
Allan Brigham (1951–2020) was a British road sweeper, historian, and tour guide. His historical writing includes ''Bringing It All Back Home'' (2006), a report published by the Chartered Institute of Housing, lamenting the decline of the Romsey neighbourhood of Cambridge, and his many contributions as a founder member of the Mill Road, Cambridge, Mill Road History Project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2013. His honours include a Tidy Britain Group Silver Broom award and an honorary degree from the University of Cambridge. Biography Brigham was born in 1951, in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, the son of Michael Brigham, an accountant, and his wife, Helen Hine, a physiotherapist. He was educated at the Leys School, Cambridge.
