Inspector General Of Police Of The Ghana Police Service
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is the most senior Police Officer in Ghana. The IGP is appointed by the President of Ghana acting in consultation with the Council of State. The IGP is the head of the Police service and is responsible for the operational control and the administration of the Police Service. The IGP is a member of the Police Council. The first Ghanaian Police Commissioner, E. R. T. Madjitey was appointed to head the service on October 9, 1958. The IGP is aided by two deputies as well as nine directors and a Chief Staff Officer. Following the retirement of B. A. Yakubu as the head of the Police service, the Progress Party government of Kofi Abrefa Busia appointed R. D. Ampaw, a lawyer civil servant as his successor. On 22 July 2019, Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana asked David Asante-Apeatu to proceed on leave as the IGP. President Of Ghana
The president of the Republic of Ghana is the elected head of state and head of government of Ghana, as well as commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces. The current president of Ghana is Nana Akufo-Addo, who won the 2020 presidential election against former president, John Dramani Mahama, by a margin of 4.23%. Arthur Lewin Alexander
Arthur Lewin Alexander (6 March 1907 – 17 April 1971) was a British police officer and was the last non-Ghanaian Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service from 1 May 1958 to 8 October 1959. After returning to England, he served as secretary of the Henley Royal Regatta from 1959 to his death. Patrick Kwateng Acheampong (; born 25 March 1951) is a barrister and was the Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service (IGP). Education Patrick Acheampong had his secondary education at the Adisadel College between 1962 and 1969 where he obtained his GCE O-level and A-level certificates. He then entered the University of Ghana where he obtained a law degree in 1972. He next attended the Ghana Police College, qualifying with the Certificate in Police Duties in 1976. He was also awarded the Sword of Honour for being the Best Cadet Officer in his batch. He qualified as a barrister from the Ghana Law School in 1977. Nana Stephen Owusu-Nsiah is a police officer and diplomat. He was the Ghanaian ambassador to Israel and a former Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service (IGP). Ernest Owusu-Poku is a former Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service (IGP). Early life and education Ernest Owusu-Poku hails from Kenyasi in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. He is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon. Career Owusu-Poku joined the Ghana Police Service in July 1965. He served as an administrator with the Special Branch in 1970. He had risen to the position of Superintendent by 1974. He became a Commissioner of Police in 1987. Peter Tenganabang Nanfuri is the Paramount Chief of the Jirapa Traditional Area with the title Naa Ansoleh Ganaa II. He is a former Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Ghana.
