Ernest Owusu-Poku
Ernest Owusu-Poku is a former Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service (IGP). Early life and education Ernest Owusu-Poku hails from Kenyasi in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. He is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon. Career Owusu-Poku joined the Ghana Police Service in July 1965. He served as an administrator with the Special Branch in 1970. He had risen to the position of Superintendent by 1974. He became a Commissioner of Police in 1987. He has been seconded to the Ministry of Interior in the past where he coordinated duties of some security agencies including the Police, Immigration, Prisons, Fire services and the Narcotics Control Board. He was the secretary to the Justice Archer Commission into Police affairs between 1997 and 1999. Prior to his appointment as the IGP, he was the Director of Passports at the Passports Office in Ghana. Inspector General Of Police Of The Ghana Police Service
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is the most senior Police Officer in Ghana. The IGP is appointed by the President of Ghana acting in consultation with the Council of State. The IGP is the head of the Police service and is responsible for the operational control and the administration of the Police Service. The IGP is a member of the Police Council. The first Ghanaian Police Commissioner, E. R. T. Madjitey was appointed to head the service on October 9, 1958. The IGP is aided by two deputies as well as nine directors and a Chief Staff Officer. Following the retirement of B. A. Yakubu as the head of the Police service, the Progress Party government of Kofi Abrefa Busia appointed R. D. Ampaw, a lawyer civil servant as his successor. The Ghana Police Service (GPS) is the main law enforcement agency of Ghana. John Kufuor
John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor (born 8 December 1938) is a Ghanaian politician who served as the President of Ghana from 7 January 2001 to 7 January 2009. He was also Chairperson of the African Union from 2007 to 2008. Kufuor's career has been spent on the liberal-democratic side of Ghanaian politics, in the parties descended from the United Gold Coast Convention and the United Party. A lawyer and businessman, he was a minister in Kofi Abrefa Busia's Progress Party government during Ghana's Second Republic, and a Popular Front Party opposition frontbencher during the Third Republic.
