Inskip is a small village in the Fylde area of Lancashire, England. It is part of the civil parish of Inskip-with-Sowerby. The village is close to the former RNAS Inskip airfield, which still serves the armed forces as a tri-service communication centre. It is home to one of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets training centres. Etymology The first part of the name ''Inskip'' may be the Brittonic ''ïnïs'' meaning "island" (Welsh ''ynys''), in place names generally referring to dry land in a marshy flood-prone area. Suffixed may be the Brittonic ''*cib'' meaning any rounded receptacle, presumably with some topographic sense, Old English ''-cy:pe'' or Anglo-Latin ''cuppa'', with the sense "fish-trap" recorded for both. RNAS Inskip, or as it was otherwise known HMS Nightjar, is a former Fleet Air Arm airfield near the village of Inskip, Lancashire, England at . In the 60's and 70's it was a Royal Navy transmitting station known as HMS INSKIP. It is now used as a military high frequency radio transmitting station.ow In the 1980s there were Marconi 50 kW transmitters operating in the (Very Low Frequency (VLF) band, transmitting Morse code to ships close to the United Kingdom. For long distance work, the shortwave bands were used, again transmitting Morse to ships mostly based on Marconi transmitters, typically 10 kW or less. The same information would be transmitted on different frequencies and it was the ship's responsibility to find the correct frequency to monitor. This was because of the different propagation characteristics of the various frequencies used. Inskip Peninsula
Inskip Point is a peninsula in the north of the locality of Inskip to the north of the town of Rainbow Beach in south-east Queensland, Australia. It is the vehicular gateway to Fraser Island (also known as K'Gari and Gari), a popular recreational area. It lies between Tin Can Bay to the South West and Great Sandy Strait to the North and curves back towards Rainbow Beach and the Coral Sea to the East. The southern tip of Fraser Island, Hook Point lies some 1,200 metres north of Inskip Point, the northern tip of the peninsula. Two ferry services run between Inskip Point and Hook Point during daylight hours. The black-breasted buttonquail, a restricted-range endemic buttonquail Buttonquail or hemipodes are members of a small family of birds, Turnicidae, which resemble, but are unrelated to, the quails of Phasianidae.
