Ingi Björn Albertsson
Ingi Björn Albertsson (born 3 November 1952) is an Icelandic retired footballer who played as a striker, and former manager of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild. After his playing career, he moved to politics and was a congressman at the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, first in 1987 - 1991 for Vesturlandskjördæmi for the Citizen's party (split parties midway through the term) and then in 1991-1995 for Reykjavík for the Independence party. Albertsson was one of the top scorers in Icelandics top division ever with 126 goals, and is currently second in the all-time table, behind Tryggvi Guðmundsson. Personal life Albertsson's father Albert Guðmundsson is Iceland's first professional footballer. The Citizens' Party ( is, Borgaraflokkurinn) was a right-wing populist political party in Iceland which was formed in a split from the Independence Party in 1987. It disintegrated slowly until it ceased to exist in 1994. Albert Guðmundsson was a minister for the Independence Party but after being implicated in a large financial lawsuit concerning the defunct shipping company Hafskip was deemed by his fellow party members to be unsuitable to continue holding such office. In protest he resigned from the party to form the Citizens' Party and with him went a significant number of other members. 1987 was an election year and The Citizen's Party managed a remarkable feat, having 7 members elected to the Alþingi. Albert Guðmundsson (born 15 June 1997) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or forward for club Genoa. Club career Albert initially moved to the Netherlands joining SC Heerenveen in 2013. For the 2015–16 season, he signed for PSV and made his debut for Jong PSV in 2015. On 31 January 2022, he joined Genoa in Italy. On 17 November 2023, Albert extended his contract with Genoa until 2027. Guðmundur Benediktsson nicknamed Gummi Ben (born 3 September 1974) is an Icelandic TV personality, sports commentator and former footballer and manager. Playing career At a young age, Guðmundur attracted the attention of major foreign clubs. At 15, he was approached by teams such as Arsenal, Everton, Tottenham and Stuttgart. Later, while still 15, he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. After the injury, he was offered the choice of going to Stuttgart or Germinal Ekeren, opting for the latter because he believed he would get more playing time. In 1997, he went on trial at Preston North End (which at the time was managed by David Moyes) and was offered a one-month contract which would be renewed on a monthly basis (due to Guðmundur's record of injury problems).
