Indo-Tibetan Border Police (Water Wing)
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (Water Wing) is a special unit of Indo-Tibetan Border Police of India. The Water Wing of ITBP was established on 30 August 2011, with an initial strength over 125 personnel led by a commandant. It is responsible for patrolling riverine borders of Himalayan regions. This includes Pangong Tso Lake, Chang Chenmo River and Shyok River and Indus River in Leh district, and Brahmaputra river in Arunachal Pradesh. It offer logistical assistance to BoPs stationed there, aid in disaster management during water-related emergencies, and train ITBP soldiers in water-based operations. Its headquarters is at Tezpur, Assam. The Brahmaputra river, which flows here, offers a good site for its training. Indo-Tibetan Border Police
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is a border patrol organization of India deployed along its borders with Tibet Autonomous Region. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces, established in 1962 in the aftermath of the Sino-Indian War of 1962. In September 1996, the Parliament of India enacted the "Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force Act, 1992" to "provide for the constitution and regulation" of the ITBP "for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected therewith". The first head of the ITBP, designated Inspector General, was Balbir Singh, a police officer previously belonging to the Intelligence Bureau. The ITBP, which started with 4 battalions, has, since restructuring in 1978, undergone expansion to a force of 60 Battalions with 15 Sectors and 05 Frontiers as of 2018 with a sanctioned strength of 89,432. Pangong Lake
Pangong Tso or Pangong Lake (; ; hi, text=पैंगोंग झील) is an endorheic lake spanning eastern Ladakh and West Tibet situated at an elevation of . It is long and divided into five sublakes, called ''Pangong Tso'', ''Tso Nyak'', ''Rum Tso'' (twin lakes) and ''Nyak Tso''. Approximately 50% of the length of the overall lake lies within Tibet in China, 40% in Ladakh, India and the remaining 10% is disputed and is a de-facto buffer zone between India and China. The lake is wide at its broadest point. All together it covers almost 700 km2. During winter the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water. Brahmaputra
The Brahmaputra is a trans-boundary river which flows through Tibet, northeast India, and Bangladesh. It is also known as the Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibetan, the Siang/Dihang River in Arunachali, Luit in Assamese, and Jamuna River in Bangla.
