Indies Records
Indies Records is a record label based in Brno, Czech Republic. The label was founded in 1990 by Milan Páleš and Miloš Gruber and has since released over 200 titles, working under the label motto "We only release music that we like". Starting out releasing different types of alternative music, the label has gradually shifted its focus to become more folk-oriented. The largest Czech folk music festival, Zahrada, has also had a stage dedicated to the label. Some of the more well-known artists with releases on Indies are Iva Bittová, Hradišťan, Zuzana Navarová, Radůza, Jablkoň, Traband, Jiří Dědeček, Jan Burian and Sestry Steinovy. The label has also released numerous albums by debuting artists, usually winners from various competitions or festivals (Koňaboj, Žofie Kabelková, Martina Trchová, Žamboši, Hromosvod, Disneyband), and put together compilations from old vinyl records ( Dagmar Andrtová-Voňková, Čp.8). Record Label
A record label, or record company, is a brand or trademark of music recordings and music videos, or the company that owns it. Sometimes, a record label is also a publishing company that manages such brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos, while also conducting talent scouting and development of new artists, and maintaining contracts with recording artists and their managers. The term "record label", derives from the circular label in the center of a vinyl record which prominently displays the manufacturer's name, along with other information. Vinyl Record
A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Starting in the 1940s polyvinyl chloride became common, hence the name vinyl. The phonograph record was the primary medium used for music reproduction throughout the 20th century. It had co-existed with the phonograph cylinder from the late 1880s and had effectively superseded it by around 1912. Records retained the largest market share even when new formats such as the compact cassette were mass-marketed. Jan Burian
Jan Burian (born March 26, 1952) is a Czech pianist, lyricist, songwriter, TV presenter. Burian was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, the son of Emil František Burian. He performed in tandem with Jiří Dědeček in the years 1973-1985. Czech Television aired his talk show "''Sitting with Jan Burian''" and the series "''Burian Women's Day''". Jiří Dědeček
Jiří Dědeček (born 13 February 1953 Karlovy Vary) is a Czech musician, songwriter, poet, translator, writer and author of numerous radio and television programs. He performed in tandem with Jan Burian In the years 1973–1985. Dědeček is a president of the Czech PEN Centre. Education He graduated in librarianship from Charles University in Prague in 1976. In 1983 to 1987 He studied script writing in Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Radůza
Radka Urbanová ( Vranková; born 16 March 1973), known by the stage name Radůza, is a Czech award-winning singer and accordionist. She won three awards at the 2003 Anděl Awards. Radůza studied at the Prague Conservatory, from which she graduated in 2001. Brno
Brno ( , ; german: Brünn ) is a city in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. Zuzana Navarová
Zuzana Navarová de Tejada (18 June 1959, Hradec Králové – 7 December 2004, Prague) was a Czech singer and songwriter. She began her career in the early 1980s as a member of '' Nerez'', and gradually become one of the most significant personalities of the Czech folk and world music scene. Her style was partially inspired by Latin American music. Biography Navarová studied Spanish and Czech language at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of the Charles University in Prague. A part of her studies Navarová spent in Havana, Cuba where she took music inspiration for her later career. Following her studies she began to work as a teacher. At the end of the 1980s, together with fellow musicians from Nerez, she studied also at the Prague Conservatory.
