State Road 116 (SR 116) is a State Road in the northern section of the US state of Indiana. Running for about in a general southeast-northwest direction and it is signed east-west. The road connects Markle, Bluffton, and Geneva and passes through mostly farmland outside of cities and towns. SR 116 was originally introduced in the early 1930s routed between Markle and SR 3 north of Bluffton. The road was extended southeast to U.S. Highway 27 (US 27) in the late 1930s and early 1940s. In the mid-1940s the road was extended east to the Ohio state line, near New Corydon. This extension was removed between late 1990s and early 2000s, the east end of SR 116 was truncated to its current location at US 27. Markle is a town in Huntington and Wells counties, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,071 at the 2020 census. It lies along Interstate 69, U.S. Route 224, State Road 116 and State Road 3. History Markle was laid out in 1836, but did not prosper until the railroad was extended to that point some time later. State Road 124 (SR 124) is an east–west state road in the U.S. state of Indiana. The highway runs from SR 19 in Peru east through Bluffton and Monroe to end at Ohio State Route 81 near Willshire, Ohio. SR 124 runs through mostly agricultural land and near a few state parks through Northern Indiana. SR 124 was first designated as a state road in 1932 along a segment of its current route. It was extended west to the Miami–Wabash county line by the late 1930s and to Peru by the early 1950s. The entire route was paved in the early 1960s to the mid 1960s. State Road 218 (SR 218) is an east–west state road, that consists of two discontinuous sections, in the northern part of the US state of Indiana. The western segment of SR 218 is just under long and connects Old State Road 25 with SR 19. The eastern portion runs from SR 15 and the Ohio state line; it is approximately long. State Road 301 in the U.S. state of Indiana is a short north–south route in Wells County in the northeastern part of the state. Route description SR 301 begins at SR 116 south of the town of Vera Cruz and travel northeast crossing the Wabash River, before entering Vera Curz. In the town SR 301 is concurrent with Center Street before turning northwest onto Wabash Street and leaving town. SR 301 logs its lowest average annual daily traffic (AADT) counts. The 2016 AADT figures show that 386 vehicles use the highway per day between Center Street and SR 124. Vera Cruz, Indiana
Vera Cruz is a town in Harrison Township, Wells County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 80 at the 2010 census. History Vera Cruz was laid out in 1848, and was named after Veracruz, Mexico. Originally, the town was named Newville, but the US Post Office had to have the name changed because there was another town named Newville in DeKalb County, Indiana. When selecting a county seat, Wells county chose between Newville and Bluffton because, at the time, they were about the same size. Ultimately, Bluffton was named the county seat, probably because of its more central location in Wells County. Ouabache State Park
Ouabache ʊ'bɑːtʃi(a French transcription of the Miami Indian word for the river, ''waapaahšiiki'', meaning "it shines white", "pure white", or "water over white stones") is a state park in Indiana. It is located south of Fort Wayne, Indiana near Bluffton, Indiana. It was originally the Wells County State Forest and Game Preserve, formed in the early 1930s. In 1962. it became the Ouabache State Recreation Area, before finally achieving state park status in 1983. The Wabash River runs through the park, which provides fishing and nature viewing. A fire tower offers an excellent view of the park. The park receives about 200,000 visitors annually. Until the 1960s, when the practice was stopped, it was the greatest producer of chicks of pheasants and quails in the United States, making it known as the "Greatest Wildlife Laboratory in the U.S." Remnants of some of the old pens can still be seen. Bluffton High School is a public high school located in Bluffton, Indiana, United States. Curriculum Classes Bluffton uses four class periods of one hour and twenty-five minutes each, as opposed to the seven-period system used at other schools. Bluffton offers various honors, AP, and dual-credit classes in social studies, science, mathematics, and English. Dual-credit engineering and vocational classes are also offered.
