Indiana National Guard
The Indiana National Guard (INNG) is a component of the United States Armed Forces, the United States National Guard and the Military Department of Indiana (MDI). It consists of the Indiana Army National Guard, the Indiana Air National Guard, and the Adjutant General's Office. Indiana National Guard units are trained and equipped as part of the United States Army and Air Force. The same ranks and insignia are used, and National Guardsmen are eligible to receive all United States military awards. The INNG also awards a number of state awards for local services rendered in or to the state of Indiana. The Indiana National Guard consists of 14,000 Soldiers and Airmen, and maintains Army National Guard armories across the state, training facilities at Camp Atterbury-Muscatatuck, and Air National Guard wings at Fort Wayne and Terre Haute. 38th Infantry Division (United States)
The 38th Infantry Division is an infantry division of the United States Army and part of the Indiana National Guard. It is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, and contains Army National Guard units from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan and West Virginia. Formed in 1917, the division earned the special designation Cyclone Division after the division's training camp at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, was damaged by a springtime tornado. Deployed to France in the closing days of the Great War, the 38th Division was broken up to fill vacancies in units already in combat. After the war, the 38th Division demobilized. After a brief period of inactivity, it was reconstituted and reorganized in the National Guard on 16 March 1923. The 38th Division was inducted into federal service on 17 January 1941 as the United States prepared for entry into World War II. 152nd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 152nd Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment in the Indiana Army National Guard, part of the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (United States). History American Civil War In 1864, eleven infantry regiments were ordered to muster for one year of service in the American Civil War. Under that call, the 152nd Infantry Regiment mustered in Indianapolis, Indiana under the command of Colonel Whedon W. Griswold. The 152nd recruited in the 9th, 10th and 11th Congressional districts and raised 988 soldiers. The regiment left Indiana on March 18 for Harper's Ferry, West Virginia where it was assigned to the Army of the Shenandoah. The regiment was stationed in Charles Town, Stephenson's Station and Summit Point, later moving to Clarksburg, West Virginia. The regiment mustered out on Aug. 30, 1865. The 151st Infantry Regiment is an infantry unit in the Indiana National Guard, part of the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Separate). History The 151st Infantry Regiment traces its roots to the Indiana Territory Indiana Rangers militia. It was in the 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe that it earned its motto "Wide Awake! Wide Awake!" In 1846, the 2d Regiment, Indiana Volunteers, Indiana Brigade was mustered into Federal Service for the Mexican–American War, and was again federalized in 1861 during the American Civil War. It was reorganized in 1882 into the Indiana Legion, which was renamed the Indiana National Guard 5 March 1895. 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team
The 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team ("Night Hawks") is a modular infantry brigade of the United States Army National Guard of Indiana. It is headquartered in Lawrence Readiness Training Center, on the grounds of Fort Benjamin Harrison. History In the buildup to World War I, the United States Congress approved the formation of seventeen new National Guard divisions, numbered 26 through 42.
