Indiana Hoosiers Field Hockey
The Indiana Hoosiers field hockey team is the intercollegiate field hockey program representing Indiana University. The school competes in the Big Ten Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Indiana field hockey team plays its home games at the IU Field Hockey Complex on the university campus in Bloomington, Indiana. Indiana has appeared in the NCAA tournament twice and finished runner-up in the Big Ten three times since the field hockey program was created in 2000. The team is currently coached by Kayla Bashore. History Field hockey has been a varsity sport at Indiana University since 2000. The Hoosiers have been a member of the Big Ten Conference and have been coached by Amy Robertson in each season of the program's existence. The Michigan State Spartans field hockey team is the intercollegiate field hockey program representing Michigan State University. The school competes in the Big Ten Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). John Mellencamp Pavilion
The John Mellencamp Pavilion is the primary indoor athletics training facility of the Indiana Hoosiers's football program. It was dedicated on April 12, 1996, following a donation of $1.5 million from singer-songwriter John Mellencamp, to facilitate the project. The indoor practice facility contains a regulation-sized football field, featuring a Sportexe Momentum 41 artificial surface which was installed in 2007. The field can also accommodate field hockey, soccer, baseball, softball and golf. The $6.5 million 96,129-square-foot (8,900 m2) training facility was financed through donations and pledges from local area alumni, businesses and philanthropists including Mellencamp and Bill Cook. Bill Armstrong Stadium
Bill Armstrong Stadium is a 6,500-capacity soccer-specific stadium and velodrome located in Bloomington, Indiana. The stadium is home to the Indiana Hoosiers men's and women's soccer teams. It also hosted the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship in 1988, and is home to the annual Little 500 cycling race, which was featured in the 1979 Oscar-winning movie ''Breaking Away''. History Construction on the stadium finished in 1981, with the 30th Running of the Little 500 being held on April 25 and the inaugural soccer game on September 13 of the same year. Polytan GmbH is a German manufacturer of synthetic turf systems and synthetic sport surfaces. It is based in Burgheim, Bavaria. Kayla Bashore
Kayla Bashore-Smedley (born February 20, 1983 in Daegu, South Korea) is an American field hockey defender and midfielder. Now living in Bloomington, Indiana , she was a student of the Indiana University, where she played for the Hoosiers, and was the first player from that university to make the US National Field Hockey team. She represented the USA at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Background Bashore-Smedley grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, and found her sporting love initially while playing soccer, rather than field hockey. After picking up her first field hockey stick as a high school student, she was recruited by that school's field hockey coach, and soon excelled at her new sport. A graduate of Hamburg Area High School, she went on to study at Indiana University, and played for that institution's team for four years.
