Indian National Finals Rodeo Hall Of Fame
The Indian National Rodeo Finals Hall of Fame is a hall of fame in Browning, Montana, dedicated to the sport of rodeo. The Indian National Finals Rodeo is dedicated to preserving and promoting the sport of Indian rodeo through as many channels as are available to it. History The Indian National Rodeo Finals was created in 1976 by five people who took some regional associations to make one larger association. Indian cowboys and cowgirls competed together in the first finals that year in the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah. The association now claims 11 regions throughout the United States and Canada. Browning, Montana
Browning is a town in Glacier County, Montana, United States. It is the headquarters for the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and the only incorporated town on the Reservation. The population was 1,018 at the 2020 census. The town was named in 1885 for Commissioner of Indian Affairs Daniel M. Browning. The post office was established in 1895. Rodeo
Rodeo () is a competitive equestrian sport that arose out of the working practices of cattle herding in Spain and Mexico, expanding throughout the Americas and to other nations. It was originally based on the skills required of the working vaqueros and later, cowboys, in what today is the western United States, western Canada, and northern Mexico. Today, it is a sporting event that involves horses and other livestock, designed to test the skill and speed of the cowboys and cowgirls. The Salt Palace was an indoor arena located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Built on land that was once the "Little Tokyo" area of the city, construction was pushed by Salt Lake's bid committee for the 1972 Winter Olympics, which included Gen. Maxwell E. Rich, president of the Greater Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, Gov. Cal Rampton, and ''Salt Lake Tribune'' publisher John W. Gallivan. Eugene Creighton
The Honourable Eugene Joseph Creighton (also Eugene Owns Many Horses) is a member of the Blood Tribe, or Kainai Nation, Kainaiawa, which is an integral part of the Blackfoot, Blackfoot Confederacy. Early years After growing up on the Blood 148, Alberta, Blood Reserve, Eugene began working in Aboriginal justice at an early age. In 1980, he became the first Chairperson of the Blood Tribe Police Commission. He then attended law school at the University of Alberta, and was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1986. He was one of the first members of the Blood Tribe to become a lawyer. He has consistently inspired the Blood youth to carry on their education. He is interested in Rodeo and animal husbandry. Indian rodeo is the rodeo subculture of Native American rodeo athletes and, in Canada, First Nations athletes. In the United States there are a number of regional associations and at least two national finals. In Canada, Indian rodeos share a major role in small aboriginal communities and are also featured events in larger centres with aboriginal populations. Some major rodeos in British Columbia such as the Williams Lake Stampede are, while not aboriginally-organized and unlike some Indian rodeos open to non-natives, heavily "Indian" in character and in the ranks of competitors.
