India competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France; this was the third Olympics where India participated. Some months ahead of the Olympics, in Feb 1924, the All India Olympic Games (that later became the National Games of India) were held at Delhi. A few sportsmen from these games were selected to represent India at the 1924 Paris Olympics: Dalip Singh, Lakshmanan, Hinge, Hall, Pala Singh, Pitt, Heathcote, and Venkataraman. Sydney Montague Jacob (28 October 1879 – 14 February 1977) was an Anglo-Indian tennis player who represented India at the Davis Cup and Olympic Games. Augustos Zerlendis sometimes spelled ''Avgoustos Zerlentis'' (Greek: Αύγουστος Ζερλέντης ; 5 November 1886 – 1954) was a Greek tennis player who competed at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp. He reached the fourth round of the 1920 Wimbledon Championships singles competition. Between 1927 and 1931 he played in seven ties for the Greek Davis Cup team. The men's singles tennis competition was one of five tennis events at the 1924 Summer Olympics. There were 82 competitors from 27 nations. Nations were limited to four players each, as they had been in 1920. The event was won by Vincent Richards of the United States, the nation's first victory in the event since 1904 and second overall (tied with South Africa for second-most all-time behind Great Britain's three wins). France and Italy each earned their first men's singles tennis medals, with Henri Cochet's silver and Uberto De Morpurgo's bronze, respectively. Background This was the seventh appearance of the men's singles tennis event.
