Independiente (record Label)
Independiente is a British independent record label formed in 1997 after Andy Macdonald sold his first label Go! Discs to PolyGram in 1996 for a reported £30 million. The label, which is currently dormant, is a division of Concord Music. The label's catalogue included albums by Travis, John Martyn, Nile, Gomez, Embrace, Paul Weller and Martina Topley-Bird. In December 2013, it was confirmed that Embrace had signed to Cooking Vinyl, leaving Independiente with no current artists on its roster. The label ceased releasing music by new artists in 2009 and has subsequently transformed itself into a profitable synchronisation business, sourcing opportunities in film and advertising for its catalogue. Concord is an independent creative rights company that develops, manages and acquires sound recordings, music publishing rights and theatrical performance rights. It is a private company, funded by long-term institutional capital and members of Concord’s management team. Lisa Maffia (born 16 June 1979) is a British singer-songwriter, musician, rapper, actress, fashion designer, model and presenter, who originally came to the public's attention as the main female member of So Solid Crew. Kinesis (band)
Kinesis were an alternative rock band from Bolton, England. The group formed in September 2000 whilst at school, and split after five years in June 2005. During this time they recorded two full studio albums, a mini album and several singles under three record labels. Members The band consisted of Michael Bromley (vocals, guitar), Neil Chow (drums, vocals), Tom Marshall (bass guitar, vocals) and Conor McGloin (guitar) Recording history Their first recording was the five track, self-released EP, ''The Flowers Are Dead'', which was followed up by a mini-album, ''Worship Yourself''. Howling Bells
Howling Bells are an Australian indie rock band that formed in London in 2004. The band obtained moderate popularity in the United Kingdom following the release of its 2006 self-titled debut album. The lineup consists of Juanita Stein (vocals, rhythm guitar), Glenn Moule (drums), Juanita's brother Joel Stein (lead guitar), and Gary Daines (bass guitar). Originally called Waikiki, the band changed its name and musical style preceding its move from Australia to England. Howling Bells' debut album, '' Howling Bells'', was produced by Ken Nelson. Roddy Frame
Roddy Frame (born 29 January 1964) is a Scottish singer-songwriter and musician. He was the founder of the 1980s new wave band Aztec Camera and has undertaken a solo career since the group's dissolution. In November 2013, journalist Brian Donaldson described Frame as: "Aztec Camera wunderkind-turned-elder statesman of intelligent, melodic, wistful Scotpop." David James Ford (born 16 May 1978 in Dartford, Kent) is an English singer-songwriter, guitarist and songwriter. He first achieved prominence with the indie rock group Easyworld, who released an independent mini-album, ''...Better Ways to Self Destruct'' and two full-length albums on Jive Records before disbanding in 2004. As a solo artist, he has released six albums to date, two of which were named "Album of The Year" in both The Sunday Times and Word Magazine. Embrace are an English rock band formed in Bailiff Bridge, West Yorkshire, England, in 1990. The band consists of brothers singer Danny McNamara and guitarist Richard McNamara, bassist Steve Firth, keyboardist Mickey Dale, and drummer Mike Heaton. Deejay Punk Roc (born Jon Paul Davies) is a former breakbeat, big beat and hip hop artist based in Liverpool, England. The alias lasted from 1997 until 2002. He provided remixes for Korn, Pitchshifter and Kurtis Mantronik. Early life Jon Paul Davies was an electronic and house musician under numerous aliases during the 1990s. One of his many aliases was Deejay Punk Roc in 1997. There were initially two different members of Deejay Punk Roc; Jon Paul Davis handled the music production and when playing live, the act was often fronted by a DJ named Charles Gettis, an African-American ex-military serviceman from Brooklyn, New York whom had been drafted into the army at 16 and had DJ'ed in block parties before later residing in Toxteth, Liverpool. Crashland (band)
Crashland were a British indie band signed to the Independiente record label. Singer Alex Troup and drummer Marc Childs met at school in Monmouth when they were 14. In October 1996, bassist Martin Maddaford was added to the line-up after answering an ad in Melody Maker. The band was signed to Independiente on 4 June 1998. The group's sound was very similar to Weezer, Dodgy and early Radiohead. Their debut album ''Glued'', released in 2000 contained 12 tracks. Blackbud
Blackbud are an English indie rock band from Wiltshire, comprising Joe Taylor (guitar, vocals), Adam Newton (bass, backing vocals) and Sam Nadel (drums, backing vocals). Blackbud have been compared to artists such as Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Led Zeppelin, and have toured extensively, to critical acclaim, having attracted the attention of Jimmy Page, Michael Eavis and Steve Lamacq, amongst other noteworthy people.
