Increase Moseley
Increase Moseley (May 18, 1712 – May 2, 1795) was a Connecticut and Vermont government official who served as Speaker of the Vermont House of Representatives. Biography Increase Moseley was born in Norwich, Connecticut on May 18, 1712. He studied medicine and became a doctor in Woodbury. Moseley served in the Connecticut House of Representatives almost continuously from 1751 until he moved to Vermont, although the exact length of his service cannot be determined because his son Increase Moseley Jr. (1740 – 1811) also served in the legislature and the rolls do not differentiate between the two. At the start of the American Revolution Moseley was active on several committees formed to coordinate the activities of the colonists, including the Connecticut committee formed to aid Boston, Massachusetts during the British occupation at the start of the war. Connecticut
Connecticut () is the southernmost state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. Frances Manwaring Caulkins
Frances Manwaring Caulkins (April 26, 1795 – 1869) was a 19th-century American historian and genealogist, the author of histories of New London, Connecticut and Norwich, Connecticut. Through her father, she was descendant of Hugh Caulkins, who came with Richard Blinman, the first minister of the Plymouth Colony. On her mother's side, her ancestry was noted in early English history, Sir Ranulphus de Manwaring being justice of Chester, in 1189–99; another, Sir William, was killed in the streets of Chester, defending Charles I on October 9, 1644. Her father died before Fanny was born, and her uncle, Christopher Manwaring, was exceedingly fond of his talented niece, aiding her with his library, and for seven years, she lived with him. The Speaker of the Vermont House of Representatives is the Speaker or presiding officer of the Vermont House of Representatives, the lower house of the Vermont Legislature. The Speaker presides over sessions of the Houses, recognizes members so that they may speak, and ensures compliance with House rules for parliamentary procedure. The Speaker also assigns members to the standing committees of the House and assigns committee chairpersons.
