''In This Case'' is a painting created by American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1983. The artwork, which depicts a skull, is among the most expensive paintings ever purchased. In May 2021, it sold for $93.1 million at Christie's New York, the second highest auction record by Basquiat. Jean-Michel Basquiat (; December 22, 1960 – August 12, 1988) was an American artist who rose to success during the 1980s as part of the Neo-expressionism movement. Basquiat first achieved fame as part of the graffiti duo SAMO, alongside Al Diaz, writing enigmatic epigrams in the cultural hotbed of Manhattan's Lower East Side during the late 1970s, where rap, punk, and street art coalesced into early hip-hop music culture. By the early 1980s, his paintings were being exhibited in galleries and museums internationally. At 21, Basquiat became the youngest artist to ever take part in '' documenta'' in Kassel. The following is a list of significant artworks by the American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988), who played a historic role in the rise of street art and neo-expressionism. During his short yet productive career, Basquiat created more than 600 paintings and 1,500 drawings. He started creating sculptures and mixed media works in 1979. The Triennale di Milano is a design and art museum in the Parco Sempione in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. The Museum of Cultures of Lugano (MUSEC) was inaugurated on September the 23rd 1989 with the aim of preserving most of the ethnic artworks collected by Serge Birignoni and coming in particular from the Far East, India, South-East Asia, Indonesia and Oceania.
