The ''Brother/Sister Plays'' is a triptych of plays written by American playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney. Overview Over the course of three years, McCraney wrote the Brother/Sister Plays while studying at Yale. He describes them as a triptych rather than a trilogy, saying in an interview with Young Vic Theatre: "Each play began a different way – inspired by my brothers and sisters and all of them are dedicated to them. They are about interconnected relationships and the complexities of those." The triptych consists of ''In the Red and Brown Water'', ''The Brothers Size'', and ''Marcus; Or the Secret of Sweet''. Tarell Alvin McCraney
Tarell Alvin McCraney (born October 17, 1980) is an American playwright, screenwriter, and actor. He is the chair of playwriting at the Yale School of Drama and a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Ensemble. He co-wrote the 2016 film ''Moonlight (2016 film), Moonlight'', based on his own play, for which he received an Academy Awards, Academy Award for Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay. He also wrote the screenplay for the 2019 film ''High Flying Bird'' and 2019 television series ''David Makes Man''. Early life and education McCraney was born in Liberty City, Florida. Orisha
Orishas (singular: orisha) are spirits that play a key role in the Yoruba religion of West Africa and several religions of the African diaspora that derive from it, such as Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican Santería and Brazilian Candomblé. The preferred spelling varies depending on the language in question: òrìṣà is the spelling in the Yoruba language, orixá in Portuguese, and orisha, oricha, orichá or orixá in Spanish-speaking countries. Oduduwa
Oduduwa was a Yoruba divine king. According to tradition, he was the holder of the title of the ''Olofin'' of Ile-Ife, the Yoruba holy city. He ruled briefly in Ife, and also served as the progenitor of a number of independent royal dynasties in Yorubaland. His name, phonetically written by Yoruba language speakers as Odùduwà and sometimes contracted as ''Ooduwa'', ''Odudua'' or ''Oòdua'', is today venerated as that of "the hero, the warrior, the leader and father of the Yoruba race". Èṣù is an Òrìṣà/Irúnmọlẹ̀ in the ìṣẹ̀ṣe religion of the Yoruba people. Oshosi (Yoruba: Ọ̀ṣọ́ọ̀sì, Portuguese: Oxóssi) is an Orisha of the Yoruba religion in West Africa and subsequently in Brazil and Cuba. The Fountain Theatre is a theatre in Los Angeles. Along with its programming of live theatre, it's also the foremost producer of flamenco on the West Coast.
