In Excess (April 8, 1987 – May 17, 2013) was a Thoroughbred racehorse who competed in England and in the United States. Background In Excess was a bay horse bred in Ireland by his owner Ahmed Fustok. He was sired by Siberian Express, a multiple Group One winner in France. In Excess was conditioned for racing in England by Bill O'Gorman. Racing career On his debut, In Excess won the October 5, 1989, EBF Sleeping Partner Maiden Stakes at Lingfield Park Racecourse. His next win came at age three in March 1990 in the Loddington Stakes at Leicester Racecourse, followed by a May 18 win in the 1990 King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse. Purchased by American Jack J. Munari, In Excess was brought to race in the United States during the second half of 1990. In September, the colt scored an eight-length win in the Hill Handicap on the turf at Louisiana Downs, then was shipped to California, where he won the Volante and San Gabriel Handicaps. Siberian Express (horse)
Siberian Express (January 25, 1981 – June 13, 1996) was an American-bred French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He made an immediate impact as a two-year-old in 1983, leading from the start to win the Group One Prix Morny on his second racecourse appearance. He went on to be placed in the Prix de la Salamandre and the Dewhurst Stakes and was rated the second best colt of his generation in France. In the following year he won the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, but the rest of his form as a three-year-old was relatively undistinguished. After two unsuccessful runs as a four-year-old he was retired having won three of his eleven races and being handled by four different trainers. He had a mixed record as a breeding stallion, but sired one exceptional performer in the multiple Grade I winner In Excess. Kelso (April 4, 1957 – October 16, 1983) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who is considered one of the greatest racehorses in history. He ranks fourth on the Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century. He defeated more champions and Hall of Fame horses than any other racehorse, and he often carried great handicaps. Some of the champions he defeated are Carry Back, Gun Bow, Bald Eagle, Tompion, Never Bend, Beau Purple, Quadrangle, Roman Brother, Crimson Satan, Jaipur, Ridan and Pia Star. Leicester Racecourse is a horse racing course in Oadby, Leicestershire, about three miles south of the city centre. History of horse racing in Leicester The earliest evidence suggests that racing took place at Abbey Meadow, Leicester on 23 March 1603, the day before Queen Elizabeth I died. The highlight of these early meetings was the Corporation Town Plate. This was discontinued towards the end of the century but was re-introduced in 1720. In 1740 meetings were transferred to St. Mary's Field, although racing was still held at Abbey Field. However, in 1742 it was decided to end racing at Abbey Field because of flooding, so St. Mary's Field became the preferred location. Lingfield Park Racecourse (commonly referred to as Lingfield) is a horse racing course at Lingfield in Surrey, United Kingdom. It is owned by the ARC Racing and Leisure Group, formerly Arena Leisure Plc. Lingfield is best known as a winter all-weather flat-racing course; the track is Polytrack, rather than the usual turf found in the UK.
